2018-19 Wildcats of the Week

Entering its fourth year, the Wildcat of the Week award focuses on individual performances on the field/court/course over the past seven days. Every Monday, two student-athletes (one male and one female) will be selected and featured on the home page as this week's Wildcat of the Week.

Monday, April 15, 2019

Male – Kendall Small – Sr. – Baseball:
The senior first baseman broke another program record this past week for the Wildcats, with his solo homerun out to center field in game one against Concordia to give him his 144th career RBI. He broke Mike Godwin's career-high RBI of 143 from 2009-12. This past week Small batted .440 throughout six games played. He finished with 11 hits, including two doubles and two homeruns, and 11 RBI. In game two against Felician, he went 4-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI. He also finished with six runs scored, a .429 on base percentage, and a .760 slugging percentage. He is currently second in the CACC with 45 RBI on the year.

Female – Brooke Siebert – So. – Women's Lacrosse:
In two games played for the Wildcats, Brooke Siebert finished with 11 goals, two assists, and 13 points. Siebert also finished with 22 draw controls and two caused turnovers. In the Wildcats 22-9 win over Holy Family, she tied the single-game program record for draw controls in a game with 14. She also scored five goals and had one assist in the contest. In WilmU's win over Caldwell, the sophomore defenseman scored six goals on six shots, and dished out one assist for seven points, while winning eight draw controls. Siebert currently sits second in the CACC with 48 assists on the year, while also ranking second in points with 74 on the season.

Monday, April 1, 2019:

Male – Julian Kurych – R.Jr. – Baseball:
The centerfielder helped lead the Wildcats to a 5-2 week last week, batting .400 with 10 hits, while leading the team with, 12 runs scored, three homers, and 12 RBI. He had a slugging percentage of .800 for the week, adding three doubles to the mix as well. The week started slow with one hit in a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill, but then he burst out for a 4-for5 day at #18 West Chester, hitting a double and his first home run of the week, knocking in four runs while scoring four more. He then batted 2-for-4 with a homer in game one at Chestnut Hill before finishing the day with a 2-for-4 game in game two with two doubles and five RBI. He hit another home run in game one against Bloomfield, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Female – Dyonne Hicks – Jr. – Track & Field:
The junior was the first female track athlete to score points in a team setting for the Wildcats, placing in both the long jump and the triple jump at the Danny Curan Invitational hosted by Widener University. Hicks had her best distance of the year so far in the long jump, going for 4.99 meters while placing sixth out of 51 jumpers. She earned three team points for her performance in the event. She then came out and put together a jump of 10.52 meters in the triple jump, tying her for eighth out of 28 jumpers in the event. She picked up another 0.5 points in the event for her finish, accumulating for all 3.5 points for the women in the invitational.

Male – Dakota Graham – Sr. - Baseball:
Dakota Graham had four hits in 10 at bats, including a triple and a double and three runs scored for the Wildcats this past week against Bridgeport. The senior went 1-for-2 in the first game with a double, before going 3-for-5 in the final game against the Knights, with a triple and two runs. The outfielder hit .400 for the week, finished with a .500 on base percentage, and a .700 slugging percentage. He currently sits fifth in the CACC with a .417 batting average on the season. Graham has one homerun on the year and five RBI.

Female – Rosa'Lynn Burton – Jr. – Softball:
Rosa'Lynn Burton helped the Wildcats to a 3-1 record last week after taking two wins against Shippensburg and another win from Pace. Burton had six hits in 13 at bats, six runs, and seven stolen bases throughout four games. The junior went 2-for-3 in game one against Shippensburg, with a double and two stolen bases. She went a perfect 4-for-4 in game one against Pace, scoring three runs, and stealing three bases to help the Wildcats to an 8-2 win. With her four hits in the game, it placed her two hits away from tying the all-time career hits record of 201. She finished the week with a .462 batting average, a .533 on base percentage, and a .538 slugging percentage. She is first in the conference batting .500 on the season and currently leads the CACC with 19 stolen bases.

Monday, March 11, 2019:

Male – Frank Nigro – Sr. – Baseball:
The senior catcher led the regular starters while in Florida with a .464 batting average, going 13-for-28 in seven games. HE had two doubles and a homer, leading the team with nine RBI while scoring eight runs. The catcher had multiple hits in every game, including a week's high 3-for-5 game with a home run against St. Thomas (Fla.). He went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI, and two runs against Stonehill to start the week. He batted 2-for-5 with two RBI against Barry, while also going 2-for-5 with an RBI in the week's final game against Queens. He is hitting .318 with 12 RBI on the year.

Female – Delaney Steele – R.So. – Women's Lacrosse:
Delaney Steele helped lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 week last week, leading the team with 18 points, dishing out 11 assists. She scored a week's high four goals while adding two assists at Mars Hill, including the game-winning goal with six seconds left on a free position attempt, 13-12. She then scored two goals while adding five assists at Newberry, and finished her week with a goal and four assists in a win over Queens (N.Y.). She also added four ground balls, one draw control, and three caused turnovers in the week.

Male – Thomas Farrior – Sr. – Men's Basketball:
Thomas Farrior scored the fifth most points in a single game in program history with 35 at Bloomfield on Saturday. He shot 16-of-24 from the floor, hitting his lone three-pointer in the game. He also added 10 rebounds for the double-double. In the Wildcats' win against Georgian Court, he scored 19 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists, shooting 7-of-15 from the floor in the game. For the week, Farrior shot 59 percent from the floor (23-for-39), scoring 27 points per game while adding nine rebounds and two assists a contest. To be eligible for CACC scoring leaders, a player must have played in at least 60% of the team's games or else Farrior would be third in the CACC in scoring 20.8 points per game.

Female – Rachel Hirst – So. – Bowling:
Rachel Hirst led the Wildcats to a seventh place finish at the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State over the weekend. Individually, she led the team and finished 16th in the tournament with a 190.6 five-match average. She bowled a team best 212 in the second match of the day against nationally No. 23 Duquesne. She also went over 200 in the team's win over Howard, knocking down 209 pins. Her five-match total of 953 pins ranks fifth most in program history for traditional scoring. Hirst now has three of the top five traditional scoring five-match totals in Wildcat history.

Male – Danny Walsh – So. – Men's Basketball:
Walsh averaged 16.5 points throughout two contests for the Wildcats this past week. The sophomore guard scored 16 points, while dishing out two assists and making four steals against Dominican. He recorded 17 points, going 7-10 from the floor for a 70 percent shooting percentage. Walsh also shot 60 percent from behind the arc, making three of five three pointers. He also made one steal and dished out two assists in the contest. He finished with seven rebounds, while shooting 54 percent from the floor and 45 percent from behind the arc. Walsh averaged 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals throughout both games. He is now leading the CACC, averaging 41.7 percent from behind the three point line for the season.

Female – Emily Ansah – Fr. – Women's Basketball:
Freshman forward Emily Ansah averaged nine points in two contests for the Wildcats last week. Ansah recorded 11 points going 5-7 from the floor against Dominican for a 71 shooting percentage from the floor. She secured a double-double in the contest by grabbing a season high 13 rebounds. She also netted seven points, three assists, and two steals in the Wildcats overtime win against Felician. She finished with a 57 percent shooting percentage from the floor throughout both contests, while averaging 9.0 rebounds. Ansah also went 2-3 from the free throw line for a 67 shooting percentage. The freshman is averaging 6.4 rebounds a contest, while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor for the year.

Male – Jermaine Head – R.Jr. – Men's Basketball:
Head led the Wildcats this past week, averaging 24 points per game, while shooting 51 percent from the floor. The red shirt junior scored 28 points in the Wildcats OT loss at Jefferson. He grabbed nine rebounds in the contest and dished out seven assists, while playing all 45 minutes. Head hit the 20 mark in points again in the Wildcats contest against Caldwell, going 5-9 from the floor, shooting 56 percent from the floor. He pulled down five rebounds, dished out four assists, and made three steals. Head also went 10-12 from the free throw line in the contest. The guard averaged 5.5 assists throughout the two contests, while making 1.5 steals per game. He leads the league averaging 22.8 points per game and is second in the CACC with 2.7 steals per game. Head is just 31 points away from scoring his 1,000th career point.

Female – Macy Robinson – Gr. – Women's Basketball:
Macy Robinson averaged 19.5 points in two games this past week for the Wildcats. She scored 14 points against No. 2 Jefferson, going 5-8 from the floor for a 62 percent shooting percentage. Robinson made six threes in the Wildcats win over Caldwell with five of them coming in the first half. She scored 25 points, while grabbing 12 rebounds in the win to secure her second double-double of the season. She also made four steals in the contest and dished out three assists. Throughout the two games, Robinson shot 52 percent from the floor, 47 percent from behind the arc, and averaged 7.5 rebounds a game. She also averaged 3.5 steals and made 1.5 assists for the Wildcats. The graduate student is averaging 13.2 points per contest, shooting 42.7 percent from the floor on the season. She is currently fourth in the CACC averaging 2.4 steals a game.

Male – Thomas Farrior – Sr. – Men's Basketball:
Farrior helped the Wildcats to a 2-0 record this past week after wins against Chestnut Hill and an overtime win over Post. He averaged 27.5 points throughout both contests and shot 42 percent from the floor. The senior guard posted 24 points and nine rebounds against Chestnut Hill. He also scored 31 points, while grabbing eight rebounds in the overtime contest. Farrior went 9-11 from the free throw line, shooting 82 percent from the line. In his eight games played, he is averaging 22.6 points a game, while shooting 47.7 percent from the floor.

Female – Kiara Eubanks – Fr. – Women's Basketball:
Kiara Eubanks averaged 17.3 points in two games for the Wildcats this past week. She scored 10 points against Chestnut Hill last Tuesday, before scoring a career-high 21 points in the Wildcats contest against Post. She went 10-13 from the floor, shooting 77 percent from the floor. She grabbed three defensive rebounds and made two assists as the Wildcats nearly came back from an 18-point deficit in the final minutes of the contest. She had a field goal percentage of 68 percent in both contests, while going 4-5 from the free throw line, shooting 80 percent from the line. The freshman guard is averaging 8.4 points per game, while shooting 40.9 percent from the floor for the season.

Monday January 21, 2019

Male – Danny Walsh – R. So. – Men's Basketball:
In his last two games, Walsh combined for 47 points. The red-shirt sophomore scored a career-high 28 points against Concordia on January 12th. He shot 10-15 from the floor, while going 7-10 from behind the three-point line in the contest. Walsh also helped the Wildcats to an overtime win against USciences, scoring 19 points. He shot 50 percent from the floor, going 6-12 and 55.6 percent from deep shooting 5-9 from behind the arc. Walsh is currently second in the CACC shooting 44.2 percent from behind the three-point line. He averaged 23.5 points a game, for a 59.3 percent shooting percentage from the floor, while shooting 63.2 percent from behind the three-point line throughout both games.

Female – Rachel Hirst – Sophomore – Bowling:
In the KU Invitational, Hirst ranked 34th out of 210 bowlers, averaging a 197.60 score for the weekend. The sophomore bowled three games with at least 200 points. She bowled a 252 for her highest bowl of the tournament in the Traditional match, while scoring a 202 and 203 in the third and fifth matches. She ended the weekend with a total of 988 pins for the tournament. Hirst helped the Wildcats finish 21st in bracket play on the final day of the tournament.

Monday, January 7, 2019:

Male – Jermaine Head – R.Jr. – Men's Basketball:
The guard carried the Wildcats to a 1-1 CACC record last week, scoring 54 points while adding 19 rebounds, 11 assists, and five steals in the games. In an 89-77 win at Georgian Court, Head scored 19 points in the second half, shooting a perfect 11-of-11 from the foul line. He also grabbed eight rebounds in the second half alone, finishing with 25 points (12-of-13 from the line) to go with nine rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. He came back and scored 18 points in the second half against Nyack, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor. He totaled 29 points against the Warriors, shooting 10-of-20 from the floor to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double. He added four assists, three steals, and a block as well. He averaged 27 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 steals a game last week.

Female – Nyree Grant – Sr. – Women's Basketball:
The senior forward averaged a double-double in three games last week, grabbing double-doubles in both of the team's CACC victories. She averaged 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals a game, all while shooting 65.6 percent from the floor. Grant's week started with a 20 point (6-of-7 shooting), seven rebound contest against Lincoln on New Year's eve before she went on the road to lead the Wildcats to a victory over Georgian Court with 24 points (9-of-13 shooting), 10 rebounds, and three steals. The week ended with a 16-point, 13 rebounds performance against Nyack, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor while adding two blocked shots and three steals. She also went 18-of-19 from the foul line for the week, including 8-of-8 from the stripe against Lincoln and 6-of-6 at Georgian Court.

Monday, December 10, 2018:

Male – Tyler Norwood – Fr. – Men's Basketball:
The freshman scored in double figures in both games last week, averaging 13.5 points, four rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. In the Wildcats' 69-62 victory over Jefferson, Norwood scored 12 points to go with four rebounds, an assist, and a blocked shot. He hit a pair of three-pointers early in the contest against the Rams. He followed that game up with a team high 15 points against Goldey-Beacom, hitting three three-pointers while also grabbing four rebounds and adding two assists and a steal in the loss. He is second on the team in scoring 15.3 points per game, adding 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game on the year.

Female – Nyree Grant – Sr. – Women's Basketball:
Nyree Grant nearly completed a triple-double in the Wildcats' first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest of the season on Tuesday against Jefferson and finished the week averaging 11.5 points and nine rebounds a game. In the CACC opener against #19 Jefferson, Grant scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the double-double, and nearly completed the triple-double with seven assists in the game. She backed that up with a 10-point, six rebound effort against Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. She is fourth on the team in scoring 9.7 points per game, but leads the team with 6.4 rebounds a contest on the season.

Monday, December 3, 2018:

Male – Denzil Haynes – Jr. – Men's Basketball:
In the Wildcats' lone game last week, Denzil Hayne helped the team to a 77-71 come-from-behind victory over Millersville in the team's final nonconference contest before CACC play begins. He secured his second double-double of the year in the win, scoring 11 points to go with 11 rebounds. Ten of his 11 rebounds came on the defensive glass, while he also helped the defense out with three steals and a block in the win. He is averaging 10.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in his first season with the Wildcats.

Female – Macy Robinson – Gr. – Women's Basketball:
In the Wildcats' lone game last week, and final contest before CACC play begins, Macy Robinson stuffed the stat sheet in a game at Molloy. She led the Wildcats with 14 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor while also leading the team with eight rebounds and four steals. She was one assist off the team high as well, dishing out four helpers in the loss. Robinson was a perfect 5-of-5 in shooting two-point field goals against the Lions. She is averaging 11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game this season.

Male – Danny Walsh – Men's Basketball:
Danny Walsh averaged 14 points per game this past week for the Wildcats, helping them to a 1-1 record. Walsh recorded a season-high 16 points against Shippensburg, while shooting 55 percent from the floor and going 4-8 from behind the arc. He came up big in the Wildcats win against West Chester, after knocking down two three-pointers in a close game. The red-shirt sophomore collected 12 points, four rebounds, one steal, and one assist against the Rams. In both games he shot an average 53 percent from the floor and 46 percent from behind the three-point line.  

Female – Jadyn Whitsitt – Women's Basketball:
Jadyn Whitsitt recorded a season-high 21 points when the Wildcats faced-off with Lock Haven last week. Whitsitt went 6-12 from the floor for a 50 percent shooting percentage, and 8-11 from the line. She grabbed eight rebounds, four defensive and four offensive, while making three assists and three steals. The sophomore guard has started in all six games for Wilmington, but played all 40 minutes for the first time this season against the Bald Eagles. She is sixth in the CACC averaging 6.7 rebounds a game, eighth in the league with 3.3 assists per game, eighth in the conference with 2.2 steals a contest, and fifth in the CACC averaging 35.5 minutes a game.

Monday, November 12, 2018:

Male – Sam Jester – Sr. – Men's Soccer:
Sam Jester ended his career by collecting at least one point in five of his final seven games, including the game-winning goal in the CACC Tournament Semifinals against Jefferson and the game tying goal in the NCAA Tournament Second Round contest against Adelphi. He also assisted on the game-winning goal to Fredrik Bentdal in the 59th minute in the NCAA Tournament First Round contest against Le Moyne. He finished his senior season with eight goals and four assists for 20 points, scoring 14 goals to go with seven assists for 35 points in his three-year career as a Wildcat.

Female – Jenna Brown – Gr. – Volleyball:
The graduate student was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-CACC during her final season. She led the CACC with 622 digs this year, ranking second overall in getting to 5.14 digs per set. She also accumulated 27 aces this year, averaging 0.22 aces per set. Brown tied the program's single match record with 41 digs in a thrilling five set victory over Nyack on Homecoming at the WU Athletics Complex. She also tallied 30 digs in a 3-2 loss to Caldwell this season.

Male – Vinny Tasca – Sr. – Men's Soccer:
Tasca helped men's soccer to a 2-0 record, while only giving up one goal for the Wildcats. The senior goalkeeper made eight saves in the net, including four against Georgian Court to secure the shutout, and four against Dominican throughout double-overtime. He had a .889 save percentage with a .47 goals against average. He leads the CACC with a .87 goals against average, while ranking fourth in the league with a .750 save percentage.

Female – Kate Tubo – Sr. - Women's Soccer:
Tubo made 17 saves in goal for the Wildcats this past week. She made 12 saves in the Wildcats double-overtime tie with Georgian Court to keep the game locked at 2-2. She also recorded five saves to secure the shutout in Wilmington's 2-0 victory over Dominican. The senior finished the week with a .895 save percentage and a .90 goals against average. She is currently fifth in the CACC with a 1.57 goals against average, fifth in the league with 94 saves, and sixth in the conference with a .790 save percentage.

Male – Will Stone – Sr. – Men's Soccer:
Stone helped the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, defeating LIU Post, 2-1, for the first time in program history. His penalty kick goal was the difference maker, coming back form a 1-0 deficit. He scored in the 85th minute for the game-winner. He then scored an insurance goal against Bloomfield on Saturday, helping the team to a 2-0 victory. Stone is now second in the CACC with 10 assists and fifth overall with 22 points.

Female – Tess Paya – Sr. – Women's Tennis:
Paya went undefeated in four matches last week, not losing a single set in either singles or doubles. She went 2-0 at No. 4 singles last week, defeating District of Columbia and Holy Family in straight sets. She also played two matches at No. 5 singles, defeating Post and Chestnut Hill without giving up a single point. In doubles, she teamed up with Marie Rondot to go 3-0 at No. 3 doubles, while also teaming up with Sabrina Blasi-Smith to defeat Holy Family at No. 3. She won by an average score of 6-2 in the four doubles matches last week.

Male – Mark Corrigan – Sr. – Cross Country:
Mark Corrigan won his first race of the 2018 season, racing to victory at the UD Blue & Gold on Saturday at the White Clay Creek State Park. He beat the field by nearly 36 seconds, finishing the 8K event in 27:01.3. His time this year was 18 seconds faster than his time at the same event and course last season. He was also named the CACC Co-Runner of the Week for his efforts.

Female – Angel Oliver – Fr. – Volleyball:
Angel Oliver helped the Wildcats to a 1-1 week by anchoring the defense at the net. She led the team with 14 blocks in two matches, denying one attempt with a solo block and adding 13 block assists. She tied a season high with eight block assists against Holy Family, adding a solo block and five block assists at Felician on Saturday. She also had five kills against the Tigers and four more against the Golden Falcons. She averaged 1.56 blocks per set for the week.

Monday, October 1, 2018

Male – Ryan Rucinski – Sr. – Golf:
The senior finished third in the 2018 CACC Golf Championship on Monday, shooting a 74-71 for a 145 (+5). He was off the top of the leaderboard by three strokes, but was the low finisher for the Wildcats. He helped lead the Wildcats to a third place finish in the tournament. Rucinski led the tournament by going two-under par on the par five holes throughout the two rounds.

Female – Jasmine Brake – Fr. – Women's Soccer:
The freshman scored her first two collegiate goals last week, earning the game-winner with her first collegiate goal against Concordia. Scored two goals against the Clippers on Homecoming on five shots.

Male – Fredrik Bentdal – Jr. – Men's Soccer:
The junior led the Wildcats to a 2-0 week by posting two goals and an assist. He tied the game, 1-1, against NYIT in the 23rd minute before helping the Wildcats take the lead for good with an assist on Dimitrios Topouzlis' goal in the 31st minute. His goal at Felician put the Wildcats up, 2-0, with a set piece form just outside the 18-yard box. It would be the eventual game-winner. He currently leads the team with 10 points this season, scoring four goals with two assists.

Female – Mandy Behiels – So. – Volleyball:
Despite only playing in two of the three matches last week, Behiels led the team with 31 kills and 34.5 points, leading the team to a 3-0 victory over Post on Saturday. She put down 16 kills in four sets at Georgian Court with nine digs before returning home and collecting 15 kills in three sets against Post. She hit .308 against Post with only three errors on 39 attempts, finishing the week with a .274 attack percentage. She averaged 4.43 kills, and 2.00 digs per set, adding two aces and two blocks.
