Wilmington’s Men Top the List, Women Third, in 2021-22 CACC Restaino Cup Standings

Press release provided by CACC Associate Commissioner Doug DeBiase

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Wilmington University sits atop the men's standings of the 2021-22 CACC Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup following the recently completed fall sports season, while the women are third overall, as announced on Monday by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Commissioner Dan Mara.

The men have a score of 11.6667, and sits ahead of second-place Georgian Court University which has a mark of 10.3750. The women have a score of 9.125 and are behind Jefferson (12.25) and Holy Family (11.416) following the fall.

The point system used for the all-sports award takes into account each athletic program's finish in both the 2021-22 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of men's sports the institution competes in during the recent season. The award is named after the late Bloomfield College Director of Athletics and Head Coach Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., who served a vital role in not just the school's athletic department but also in the enhancement of the CACC. The CACC announces the updated Restaino Cup standings in both men's and women's sports following the fall, winter and spring sports seasons. The conference will announce the next round of standings in mid-March following the basketball championships, and then will release the final standings and the 2021-22 winners in late May after the completion of spring sport championships.

Wilmington jumped into first place following the fall season as the Wildcats men's golf team captured the CACC title in its tournament, and the men's soccer team won a share of the CACC Regular Season Championship and advanced to the tournament semifinals. Post University, which won the men's soccer tournament championship, finds itself in third place in the Restaino standings (8.9167). Thomas Jefferson University was the other school to win a CACC men's title this fall, as the Rams captured the men's cross country championship to help put the school in fifth place in the Restaino Cup race (8.5000).

The Wildcats earned 12.5 points for its share of the men's soccer regular season title and 10.5 points for their appearance in the CACC Tournament Semifinals for a 11.5 average. The men's cross country team earned 11 points for a third place finish and the golf team earned 12.5 points for its CACC Championship. The men totaled 35 points, divided by the three sports, for an 11.6667 score in the fall.

Jefferson's women jumped into first place following the fall season as the Rams claimed three conference titles in women's cross country, women's soccer and women's volleyball. It was the school's eighth-consecutive women's cross country title, and the women's soccer squad won its third-straight CACC crown. The volleyball unit claimed the program's second CACC title in the last six seasons. Holy Family jumped to second in the standings as both its women's soccer and women's volleyball programs captured regular season titles. Wilmington University sits in third in the standings (9.1250) thanks to its CACC Championship in women's tennis and its women's soccer team advancing to the conference final.

The Wildcats were led by the women's tennis team earning 13 points in the regular season and 13 points in the CACC Tournament. The women's soccer team earned 10 points for the regular season and 12 for their run in the CACC Tournament. The volleyball team earned 11.5 points in the regular season and another 10.5 points for a trip to the CACC Tournament semifinals while the women's cross country team earned 1.5 points. Altogether, the women scored 36.5 points, divided by the four sports played, for a score of 9.125.
