Dr. Joseph Straight of First State Orthopaedics took over as Head Team Physician in January of 2020. He had previously worked with Wilmington University as an assistant team physician since 2005.

Dr. Straight is a Delaware native and graduate of Saint Elizabeth High School, the University of Delaware and Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.  He completed his Family Medicine residency and Sports Medicine fellowship at Christiana Care. Dr. Straight’s specialty is Primary Care Sports Medicine/Musculoskeletal Medicine.

Wilmington University holds a weekly clinic on campus with Dr. Straight to screen for athletic injuries that will need referral to his office for further evaluation. First State Orthopaedics is located close to both our New Castle campus and the Athletic Complex and employs other specialists that our Head Team Physician may consult.
