SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - - Shippensburg outslugged the Wilmington University baseball team en route to a 19-6 nonconference victory on Tuesday afternoon at Fairchild Field.

The Wildcats (9-17) came out swinging in the nonconference game, scoring in the first two innings and taking leads of 1-0 and 5-3. But the Red Raiders (16-21) answered every Wilmington run with a spurt of their own, eventually taking the lead for good in the bottom of the third.

Four crooked numbers paced the Red Raiders, as they scored three in the first, five in the third, seven in the sixth, and capped the scoring with three in the seventh.

The scoring starting early as the Wildcats came out of the gates fast in the top of the first. Julian Kurych started the game by being hit by a pitch and the Wildcats had runners on second and third with one out. Nick Macey flew out to center, but deep enough to score Kurych for the game's first run.

The Red Raiders answered right back however, as a one-out triple and an RBI ground out tied the game. The inning remained alive in part to a Wilmington error and the home team responded with a bases loaded, two-run single.

The deficit didn't last for long for the Wildcats, as Rocky Ferrier started the top of the second with a leadoff double. Kendall Small brought Ferrier in from third with a one-out single, and Kyle Fries tied the game, 3-3, with an RBI triple to right center. Kurych continued the hit streak with an RBI single before Christian Adorno singled to right and advanced all the way to third on an error, scoring Kurych for the 5-3 lead.

Shippensburg scored once in the second and the Wildcats stranded a runner on third in the top of the third inning. The Red Raiders took over from there, scoring five runs on five hits in the third to take the lead for good.

Brad Scull brought in the Wildcats final run with an RBI double in the seventh, but took the loss on the mound with his first collegiate start, giving up nine runs (seven earned) in 2.1 innings of work.

Adorno was the lone Wildcat to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3 in the game. Scull, Ferrier, and Brooks Ryan hit doubled for the Wildcats while Fries went 1-for-3 with a triple.

Ryan McMillen led the Red Raiders offensively by going 6-for-6, missing the cycle by a double. He hit a three-run home run in the sixth, adding six RBI and three runs scored.

The Wildcats busy week continues on Wednesday, as they return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on the road at Bloomfield. The first pitch of the CACC doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m.
