NEWARK, Del. – The Wilmington University baseball team looks to defend its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship this spring and gain another berth to the NCAA Regional Tournament, as head coach Brian August announces the 2019 schedule.
The Wildcats finished with an overall 35-21 record, with a 24-9 CACC record, finishing second in the regular season last year. Securing the CACC Championship led the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2015 season, where they fell to top seed and No. 8 New Haven, 1-0.
The 2019 schedule consists of two trips down south and 12 home dates for the Wildcats. They will face four teams that made their respective 2018 Regional Tournament, and an NAIA World Series participant.
Wilmington will start their season with a trip to Myrtle Beach on February 22 for a three-day tournament. The Wildcats will look for revenge as they face the University of New Haven and St. Thomas Aquinas during the weekend, who also reached the NCAA East Regional Tournament last season.
The following week the Wildcats set out to the Sunshine State, where they will play eight games during the week of March 2-9. WilmU will start the week out against Stonehill College at Palm Beach Atlantic University, followed by St. Thomas (Fla.) that Sunday. To end the week, they will face Queens College, Florida International, and Queens College again on Saturday, March 9.
The Wildcats home opener at Wilson Filed will be a doubleheader against East Coast Conference contender Bridgeport on Saturday March 16, followed by a single game against the Knights on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. The Wildcats host USciences for their first CACC matchup on Wednesday, March 20 before they head to Philadelphia on March 22 for two games in the CACC's new scheduling format.
To begin the month of April, the Wildcats host PSAC contestant Kutztown on Tuesday, April 2, before traveling to cross-town rival Goldey-Beacom the next day. Wilmington will have four away contests and six home contests, including CACC Runner-Up Felician, Jefferson, and NCAA Regional Tournament participant Millersville to finish out the regular season.
The Wildcats look to be one of the top four teams in the South Division to make it to the CACC Tournament starting Saturday, May 4 hosted at the higher seed. The double-elimination portion of the Tournament will be held at Post University from May 9-11.
