Wilmington Baseball and Softball Earn Four CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After going 2-0 and 4-0 last week, respectively, Wilmington University's baseball and softball teams earned four Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Baseball's Sean Deely was named CACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, while redshirt freshman, Kyle Maxwell earned CACC Co-Rookie of the Week. On the women's side, Rosa'Lynn Burton was named CACC Player of the Week, with teammate Caitlyn Whiteside, who earned Co-Pitcher of the Week for softball.

Redshirt senior Sean Deely went 7.0 IP, allowing four hits, three walks, and 10 strikeouts to help lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over Nyack in game one to earn CACC Co-Pitcher of the Week. Deely struck out five of the first seven batters in the contest. In the top of the seventh inning, he was able to get out of a bases loaded jam by striking out the final two batters to end the inning. He is currently second in the CACC with 72 strikeouts, sits fourth in the league with six wins on the year, and has a 5.05 ERA.

Teammate Kyle Maxwell earned CACC Co-Rookie of the Week for the first time this season. Maxwell threw a complete game shutout in game two against the Warriors, allowing only two hits, three walks, with eight strikeouts. The redshirt freshman only allowed a hit in the top of the first and fourth inning. Despite those two hits, and three walks, he would throw three, one-two-three innings. He is currently second in the CACC with a 2.47 ERA and has 39 strikeouts on the year.

Softball's Rosa'Lynn Burton earned CACC Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Burton batted .667 throughout four games with eight hits, including a double and a triple, with three RBI, and six runs scored. In game two against Nyack, she went 3-for-3 with one stolen base. She had two RBI in game one against Goldey-Beacom on a triple to left center. She also went 3-for-3 again in game two against the Lightning with three stolen bases. She finished the week with .714 on base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage. She continues to lead the CACC with a .533 batting average and in stolen bases, going 50-50 on the year.

Senior Caitlyn Whiteside earned Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. She threw two complete game shutouts to help the Wildcats to a 4-0 record on the week. In game one against Nyack, Whiteside allowed just three hits and one walk, while striking five batters out. She would retire the final 14 batters in order in the contest to complete the 5-0 shutout. In game one against Goldey-Beacom, she got out of the second and fourth inning, stranding two runners on, while striking out five batters in the game. With the shutout, she improved to 16-8 on the year. She currently leads the CACC with 16 wins, is ninth in the league with 86 strikeouts, and is fifth in the conference with a 2.26 ERA.

Sean Deely earned Co-Pitcher of the Week with Chestnut Hill's Billy Bethel, while Kyle Maxwell earned CACC Co-Rookie of the Week with Dominican's Brian Sanders. Caitlyn Whiteside earned the Co-Pitcher of the Week honors with Chestnut Hill's Kaley Wise.

Baseball's Eddie Nevins earned a spot on this week's Honor Roll. Nevins finished the week with a .714 batting average, going 5-7 throughout two games played. In game two against Nyack he went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo homerun. He currently leads the league with a .464 batting average, while sitting third in the conference with 44 RBI.
