Baseball’s Luke Johnson Named CACC Player of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – To end the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards for the spring season, senior Luke Johnson was named CACC Player of the Week for Wilmington University baseball.

Johnson ended the weekly nominations the same way they were started, as he was named CACC Player of the Week for the second week in a row and for the fourth time this season.

The senior outfielder from Jarrettsville, Maryland went 3-for-7 throughout two games played for the Wildcats, with seven RBI and five runs scored. He went 1-for-3 against No. 9 Millersville with a three-run homerun that gave the Wildcats their first lead of the game. In the Wildcats 14-3 win over No. 3 Nyack in the CACC Play-in-Game, he went 2-for-3 with a double, another homerun, and two walks for four RBI.

He finished the week batting .429, with a .556 on base percentage, and a 1.429 slugging percentage. Johnson now sits second in the CACC behind teammate Kendall Small with 52 RBI this season. He is also tied for first in the CACC with 11 homeruns and sits sixth in the league batting .380 on the year.

Teammate Dan Hyatt earned a spot on this week's Honor Roll as he pitched 7.0 innings, allowing four hits, and just two runs with seven strikeouts in the Wildcats 14-3 win over No. 3 seeded Nyack in the CACC Play-in-Game. 

The No. 2 seeded Wildcats will play in the double elimination portion of the CACC Tournament starting Thursday at 11:00 a.m. against No. 4 seeded Jefferson at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut.
