Baseball’s Alex Hinton Named CACC Rookie of the Week; Bowling’s KC Miller Named ECC Rookie of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – With the final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors for a while, the Wilmington University baseball team earned freshman Alex Hinton as CACC Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday morning, while the East Coast Conference announced the final ECC Bowlers of the Week, which included freshman KC Miller as ECC Rookie of the Week.

Alex Hinton pitched 2.0 innings, allowing zero hits, zero runs, and zero walks to help the Wildcats to a come from behind win over Shippensburg last Wednesday. Hinton came into the bottom of the eighth with the game still tied 7-7 to retire the side in order to send the game into the 9th inning. With help from the offense, Wilmington took the lead in the top of the ninth for Hinton to close the game in the bottom half of the inning, getting two straight outs, before stranding a runner on first to complete the 7-6 win.

The win gave the freshman his first collegiate win. In six appearances, he collected nine strikeouts, and just seven hits through 9.1 innings pitched for the Wildcats in relief. In those six games, Hinton finished with a 3.86 ERA.

Freshman KC Miller notched her second ECC Rookie Bowler of the Week honor after finishing 13th overall at the Northeast Region Roundup with a 1,014 five-match total. Her five-match traditional scores were 208-193-167-244-202 for a 20.28 frame average. Miller led all ECC rookies, while finishing third overall in the conference with a 20.12 frame average.

Baseball's Brooks Ryan earned a spot on this week's Honor Roll after driving in the game-winning RBI on a double to center field against Shippensburg, while women's lacrosse's Brooke Siebert also earned a spot after scoring three goals, and grabbing seven ground balls, three draw controls, and making two caused turnovers against No. 22 New York Tech.
