WATERBURY, Conn. - - A pair of four-run innings led the Wilmington University baseball team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep of Post on Saturday, 6-2 and 6-2, at Municipal Stadium.

In the opener, it was a four-run seventh inning that broke a 2-2 tie, and then a four-run fifth inning in game two to take the commanding lead for the sweep.

GAME 1:

The Eagles (0-4, 0-4 CACC) scored first in the opener but the Wildcats answered right back in the top of the third inning, scoring on a wild pitch. The host Eagles took the lead again in the bottom of the third with an RBI triple, but the Wildcats fought back in the fifth to even the score. Quintin Ivy singled in Dominic Fiorentino to make it 2-2 in the fifth.

A 1-2-3 inning in the fifth by Xander Emberger and another clean sheet in the sixth by Justin Brooks allowed the offense to come to life.

A leadoff walk started things and then Quintin Ivy hit an RBI double and Shawn Haut followed with a sac fly to make it 4-2. Two batters later, Nic Hertzfeld singled to left, scoring both Ivy and Hyatt to take the commanding, 6-2, lead.

Rich Albrecht came out and struck out the side to end the opener.

Quintin Ivy went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in game one while Nic Hertzfeld batted 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Starter CJ Deery went 2.2 innings with four strikeouts before Xander Emberger went 2.1 of clean baseball with three strikeouts. Justin Brooks pitched a clean sixth for the win while Albrecht finished off the game.

GAME 2:

Quintin Ivy remained hot with an RBI single in the first, but the Eagles answered with an RBI single of their own in the home half of the frame.

Dominic Fiorentino started the third off with a double to left, and Brock Nowell quickly scored him with an RBI single to take the lead for good in game two. Then the Wildcats opened it up in the fifth.

With two outs and two on, Jack McDonald singled to left to start the scoring before JJ Killen launched a three-run shot to expand the lead to 6-1.

The Eagles left the bases loaded in the sixth and scored a run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats earned the sweep, 6-2.

Brock Nowell led the offense in game two by going 2-for-2 with an RBI. JJ Killen's three RBI led the way as well.

Matt Boyko made his Wildcat debut by pitching 3.1 innings with four strikeouts in the start. Anthony Giordano tossed 1.2 of scoreless innings to earn the win before Dom Grady finished off the game with the final two innings, striking out four batters.
