NEW CASTLE, Del. - - Quintin Ivy led an offensive charge for the Wilmington University baseball team on Tuesday, as they swept Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader, 25-0 and 11-3, at Wilson Field to sweep the three-game season series.
In the doubleheader, Quintin Ivy batted 6-for-7 with three doubles and two homers, adding nine RBI and seven runs scored.
GAME 1:
The Wildcats tied their program record for largest margin of victory, tying the mark set on April 1, 2010 in a 25-0 victory against Lincoln University (Pa.). The Wildcats scored in every inning, including a seven-run second and a nine-run fourth.
Shawn Haut started the scoring by pushing a single through the right side, plating two in the first.
Then the crooked numbers came out.
With one out in the second, Brock Nowell singled in Steve Cornog before Quintin Ivy singled in another run. Shaw Haut made it 6-0 with a two-run single and the inning continued. Steve Cornog capped the inning off with his second at bat of the frame, collected his second hit with an RBI single up the middle for the 9-0 lead.
Leading 10-0 in the fourth, JJ Killen launched a two run homer to left before Quintin Ivy hit a two-run double down the left field line to make it a 15-0 lead. Shawn Haut tripled in a run and Dan Hyatt got in on the scoring with an RBI single. Nic Hertzfeld added on in the inning, hitting a two-run double to left center to make it 19-0.
Now in the fifth, Ivy stepped in blasted a two-run shot over the batter's eye in dead center field to make it 21-0, then JJ Killen added on his day with a two-run double to right center for the 23-0 lead.
Erik Molinaro chipped in with am RNI single in the sixth and then Ivy capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to left center, his sixth RBI of the contest.
Kyle Maxwell pitched five scoreless innings with five strikeouts while allowing three hits and three walks to improve to 2-0 on the year. Lance Hinton pitched a scoreless sixth while Ivy came on and escaped a bases loaded jam in the seventh for the shutout.
Ivy batted 4-for-5 with six RBI and four runs scored while Shaw Haut batted 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs score. JJ Killen finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Dan Hyatt also batted 3-for-3 in the opener.
GAME 2:
The scoring continued in the bottom of the first of game two, as the Wildcats quickly got out to a 3-0 lead. Shawn Haut hit one out to deep right center, and Dominic Fiorentino easy scored on the sacrifice fly from third, but around came Quintin Ivy from second as well, beating the throw for the two-run sac fly. Jack McDonald followed with an RBI single and the Wildcats were off and running once again.
Quintin Ivy added to his day in the bottom of the second, blasting another homer to left field, his fifth of the year, to give the Wildcats a 5-2 lead.
The Wildcats put the game away with a five-run fifth.
Adrian Jimenez started the scoring with a sacrifice fly, and Quintin Ivy capped his afternoon with an RBI double to left. A passed ball and a JJ Killen RBI single later and the Wildcats led 10-3.
The Wildcats went down in order in the fourth for the first scoreless bottom half of an inning on the afternoon. Another Jack McDonald sacrifice fly in the sixth capped the day for the Wildcats, 11-3.
AJ Stento earned his first win as a Wildcat by going four innings, striking out five while allowing three runs on four hits. Ryan Sandberg struck out four in two innings before Dom Grady came on and closed out the win with a scoreless seventh.
Brock Nowell, Quintin Ivy, and JJ Killen all led the offense with two hits each while Ivy led with three RBI.
UP NEXT:
The Wildcats turn around and travel to Jefferson on Wednesday to start another three-game CACC South Division series. The single, nine-inning game is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia.
