HOCKESSIN, Del. - - Tyler Campbell and Quintin Ivy powered the Wilmington University baseball team to a game two win at Goldey-Beacom, 5-1, on Sunday at Doyle Field, salvaging a split and a win in the three-game season series.
The Wildcats (14-7) dropped the opener on Sunday, 9-2, and lost the single game at Wilson Field last week, 4-1, as the Lightning (17-5, 16-5 CACC) took the season series, 2-1.
GAME 1:
The Lightning jumped out early in the opener, scoring all nine runs in the first five innings, including three runs in the bottom of the first. Three batters into the contest, the Lightning had two singles and a homer, taking an early 3-0 lead.
An error and a sacrifice fly put two more on the board in the bottom of the second before an RBI single and a two-out error scored two more in the third and Goldey-Beacom raced out to a 7-1 lead.
Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings expanded the lead out to 9-1.
The Wildcats left two runners on in the seventh and hit into an inning ending double play in the eighth to stem any late game rallies. Adrian Jimenez, Joey Cautillo, and Nic Hertzfeld all singled in the ninth to load the bases with one out, but they would only score one run in the inning on a wild pitch.
Ryan Speed, Adrian Jimenez, and Joey Cautillo collected two hits each in the game one loss. Dom Grady, Anthony Giordano, and Lance Hinton all threw scoreless innings in relief.
GAME 2:
Tyler Campbell was dealing in game two, throwing five innings while only allowing two hits and one walk, picking up seven strikeouts for his first win of the season. He retired seven in a row to end his outing.
The Wildcats left two runners on in the first and one more on base in the second before breaking through in the top of the third.
Brock Nowell hit a one-out single and Quintin Ivy quickly made it 2-0 with his CACC leading eighth homer of the season.
The top of the order was at it again in the fifth, as Dan Hyatt started the frame off with a leadoff single. After Brock Nowell moved Hyatt up to second, Quintin Ivy picked up his third RBI of the game with a single up the middle and the 3-0 lead.
Justin Barcoski came on and pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning the bottom of the sixth before the Wildcats tacked on two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Quintin Ivy hit a leadoff double, but was caught at third attempting to steal. Ryan Speed then doubled and Shawn Haut walked to put two runners on. Nic Hertzfeld came up clutch with a two-out single, scoring both runners for the 5-0 lead.
Rich Albrecht came in for the seventh and allowed a leadoff double. After recording a pair of out, the Lightning avoided the shutout by getting an RBI single before Albrecht induced a ground ball to end the game.
Ivy went 3-for-3 with a homer and a double, collecting three RBI. He was the only Wildcat with multiple hits in game two.

The Wildcats have two doubleheaders left to close out the regular season, starting with Chestnut Hill at home on Monday afternoon. The first pitch at Wilson Field is set for 12:00 p.m.
