NEWARK, N.J. - - The long ball aided the Wilmington University baseball team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep of Bloomfield on Wednesday, 12-6 and 4-0, hitting four homers and getting a complete game shutout by Matt Boyko in game two at West Side Park.

GAME 1:

The bats came alive in the opener, scoring five runs in the second, two in the third, and three more in the fifth. The Wildcats hit three homers and a double in game one, getting 13 hits from nine different batters.

The Wildcats (18-6, 10-2 CACC) loaded the bases in the top of the first, but the Bears (11-18, 5-8 CACC) induced a 3-2-3 double play to thwart any Wildcat momentum.

The Wildcats would come through in the second though, as Nick Hertzfeld started the scoring with an RBI single to score Erik Grady. Adrian Jimenez launched his first collegiate home run, a solo shot to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Shawn Edevane walked and Jack McDonald singled to keep the inning alive and Quintin Ivy took advantage, hitting a three-run homer to give the Wildcats a 5-0 lead.

Adrian Jimenez was at it again in the top of the third, hitting a two-run double to right for his second and third RBI of the game.

Matt Warrington set the first 11 Bears down in order before a two-out double in the fourth gave the Bears their first hit. Warrington left two batters on that inning to keep the Bears scoreless.

Shawn Edevane added to the Wildcats' lead in the top of the fifth inning, launching a two-out, three-run homer to give the Wildcats a 10-0 lead. The Bears were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, hitting a one-out solo homer. Warrington was done after five innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four for his first win of the year.

The Bears closed the gap in the bottom of the sixth, putting five on the board with a homer, an RBI double, and a pair of RBI singles. Scott Borgmann gave the Wildcats an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single and then Alex Krick closed the door by leaving the bases loaded in the seventh for the 12-6 win.

Adrian Jimenez led the way by going 3-for-3 with a homer and a double with three RBI. Quintin Ivy went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI while Shawn Edevane went 1-for-1 with three walks, a homer, and three RBI.

GAME 2:

Quintin Ivy hit his 10th homer of the season in the top of the first and it was more than enough for Matt Boyko in the nightcap. Ivy has not homered in three straight games and five of the last seven overall.

Matt Boyko went the distance, allowing eight hits, seven of which were singles, without giving up a walk and striking out four.

Nic Hertzfeld walked and Matt Warrington doubled to start the top of the third inning, looking to add on. Shawn Edevane hit a sacrifice fly and Jack McDonald hit an RBI groundout to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead. Matt Warrington added a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth as well, capping the scoring.

The Bears threatened in the second with a pair of two-out singles, but Boyko struck out a batter to escape the jam. The Bears hit three singles in the bottom of the seventh to load the bases with one out. But Boyko induced a grounder to Jimenez at third who stepped on the bag and threw the ball to first for the game-ending double play.

Matt Boyko improved to 3-0 on the year with the win.
