NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University baseball team is back in the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament after winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Saturday. It is the tenth regional appearance in the Wildcats' NCAA era.
The Wildcats make their first appearance in the East Region Tournament since 2019 and will host the East Regional # 1 Tournament the first time in program history.
The Wildcats (31-11) earned the fourth seed in the double-elimination tournament hosted by Wilmington University at Wilson Field. The Wildcats open the tournament against fifth seeded Southern Connecticut State (30-13-1) on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The winner of Game No. 1 will have the rest of the day off and play Game No. 3 on Friday. The loser will play #1 Southern New Hampshire Penman at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The winner of the East Regional 1 Bracket advances to take on the winner of the East Region 2 Bracket hosted by Molloy College in the East Super Regional best-of-three series. The winner of that advances to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Cary, N.C hosted by the University of Mount Olive.
The NCAA went to the two-regional and Super Regional format beginning in 2019. The Wildcats won the 2015 East Regional Tournament when it was seven teams held at one site, advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championships.
