NEWARK, Del. - - The College Sports Communicators announced its 2024 Academic All-District Baseball Team, and two Wilmington University student-athletes were recognized as some of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Scott Borgmann and Tyler Pirrung represent the Wildcats on the CSC Academic All-District Team. The Wildcats are two of the 21 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference representatives on the All-District Team.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District nomination, the student-athlete must excel in both the field of play and the classroom. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, AND compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games, along with several other criteria.
Scott Borgmann (Parkton, Md.) appeared in 12 games for the Wildcats, making seven starts on the mound. He struck out 19 batters in 29.1 innings pitched in 2024. He is currently carrying a 3.68 cumulative grade point average following three years into his sports management degree.
Tyler Pirrung (Newark, Del.) was an All-Region performer for the Wildcats this year, finished third in the CACC with a .365 batting average and third with a .473 on-base percentage. His .519 slugging percentage gave the sophomore a 0.992 OBS in his second year of action. Pirrung collected 38 hits this spring, going for nine doubles, two triples, and a homer. He was second on the team with 24 RBI while scoring 30 more. He carries a 3.82 cumulative grade point average into his junior year while studying for a business management degree.
The CSC Academic All-America Teams will be announced on Tuesday, July 2.
