Brian August begins his 19th year as head coach of the Wildcats in 2023. A graduate of the University of Delaware, where he was a standout baseball player, August was the assistant baseball coach, assistant athletic director, and building and grounds supervisor at Cecil County Community College prior to coming to Wilmington University.

He is currently 522-330-2 in 18 seasons at the helm of the Wildcats. August won his 500^th career game on Saturday, March 26, 2022, with a sweep of Caldwell at Wilson Field. As on the NCAA's 2022 Coaches Record Book, he became the 53rd coach to record 500 career wins in NCAA DII. 

August and the Wildcats won the 2022 CACC Tournament for the ninth time since 2007. August has led the Wildcats to CACC Tournament Championships in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2022. The Delaware native has coached six CACC Pitchers of the Year, five CACC Players of the Year, two CACC Rookies of the Year and has been named CACC Coach of the Year in 2010, 2015, and 2022. On top of numerous CACC All-Conference and All-Region selections, August has also had 13 players named to various post-season All-American Teams. He also became the University’s second coach to ever be named the East Region Coach of the Year, earning the ABCA’s award in 2015.

Although making their 10th NCAA East Regional appearance in 2022, August again led his team to an all-time first as the Wildcats hosted the NCAA East Region 1 Tournament at Wilson Field. Going in as the No. 4 seed, the Wildcats hosted No. 1 Southern New Hampshire and #5 Southern Connecticut State to New Castle, Delaware, to compete in the sub-regional. The Wildcats dropped two games on the first day, however, as Southern New Hampshire went on to win the sub-regional and compete in the Super Regional. 

In 2019, he led a resurgent Wilmington team to a 40-18 overall record, their most wins since the 2013 season. The team advanced to the NCAA East Region 1 Tournament, coming back to play in the Championship round against NYIT.

The Wildcats became the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball team to ever win the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament and advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships in 2015. August led the Wildcats to a 37-15 overall record in 2015, beating 20th ranked Southern New Hampshire, Stonehill, No. 1/3 Franklin Pierce, and St. Thomas Aquinas to capture their first ever regional championship.

August previously took the Wildcats deeper into the postseason than ever before in 2013, earning the first No. 1 seed in for the East Regional Tournament in program history, while also shattering the NCAA era wins record by going 43-17 overall. The team was one game away from reaching the NCAA Division II World Series in 2013, falling in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship game held at Southern New Hampshire University.

August enjoyed some of his most successful campaigns from 2011-15, leading his team to a 185-70-1 overall record in five seasons, reaching the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament each year.

August was a three-year starter for the Blue Hens, and led Delaware to the NCAA post season in 1996. He was named to the America East All-Conference team in 1995, 1996, and 1997, and was a member of three nationally ranked Delaware teams during those seasons. August helped lead the Blue Hens to the NAC title in 1995 and 1996, and the America East title in 1997. He was also named the America East Player of the Year in 1997, and still holds many offensive records for Delaware. August was inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in the fall of 2016.

After his senior year of high school in 1994, August was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the Major League Baseball Draft. Brian instead went to play for the Blue Hens, and following his career with Delaware, was again selected in 1997 in the draft by the New York Yankees. August went on to play for three years at third base in the Yankees’ minor league system, garnering MVP honors in the New York Penn League in 1998.

August helped lead a Cecil team that finished the 2004 season with a 41-12 record, including a loss in the regional final. The Seahawks ended the year ranked fifth in the nation in NJCAA Division II.

His 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2022 Wildcat squads captured the CACC Championship and earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals. The 2007 squad made history with the CACC Championship, earning the teams' first appearance into an NCAA Regional Tournament. Coach August and his team finished third at the NCAA Division II East Regional tournament after winning the CACC Tournament in 2009. 

Coach August currently works in the University's athletic department as the Associate Athletic Director.

He resides in New Castle with his wife Ashley, along with his three children, Tyler, Madelyn, and Cameron.
