Doug Nowell returns for his eighth season with the Wildcat baseball team in 2021 after a four-year hiatus with the program. He came to Wilmington University in 2010 after establishing himself as one of the premier youth and high school coaches in the tri-state area.

He stepped away from the Wildcats in 2016 to return to the high school game at Conrad in Wilmington, Del. Prior to his first stint with Wilmington, he spent the previous four seasons as the head baseball coach at Salesianum High School, where he went 74-18 and won a state championship in 2008. Coach Nowell also spent time coaching at A.I. DuPont and Delcastle High Schools.

Nowell will return to be the team’s third base coach in 2020, as well as being responsible for the infielders and assist August on the offensive game plan.

While his on-field success is noteworthy, Nowell’s passion for teaching the game stands out most. His daily approach to the proper way to play baseball continues to motivate both current and former players, as well as the coaches who have worked with him. His competitiveness is contagious, but his respect for the game and his opponents remains paramount. This is clearly evidenced in his players, on the youth, high school, and collegiate levels.

Currently, Nowell is the director of the Delaware Sabres Youth Baseball Organization, and has spent time working with the Delaware Vets/Newark and Delaware Diamonds associations.

He resides in Newark with his wife Megan, along with their three children Austin, Brock, and Camryn.
