Wilmington Cheerleading Cracks Top 40 Colleges to Cheer List

NEWARK, Del. - - Although the Wilmington University cheerleading team has stayed atop the Small Coed Division II world for the past four years, the team is starting to climb the Top 40 Colleges to Cheer list produced by CheerDaily.com.

The cheerleading website used four criteria to rank its top cheerleading programs from all three NCAA divisions and NJCAA programs. Cheer Daily ranked programs on a scale from 0 to 5 in each of the following categories: scholarships offered, academics, game day atmosphere, and competitiveness.

For the first time in program history, the Wildcats cheerleading team tallied enough points to make the list, coming in at 34 in the Top 40. They finished just ahead of Columbus State University and directly behind Stephen F. Austin State University.

Other notable programs in the Top 40 list are the University of Delaware at No. 30, University of West Georgia (NCAA Division II) at No. 27, and Penn State University at No. 26. The University of Kentucky is slated as the top cheerleading program according to Cheer Daily's four criteria.
