NEWARK, Del. - - It's been a long two years, but the Wilmington University cheerleading team is headed back to Orlando, Florida to compete at the 2022 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships this weekend at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.

The Wildcats won eight consecutive UCA Small Coed Division II National Championships from 2012-2018 but finished as runner-ups in 2019 to Drury. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Wildcats had to wait two full years to get back on the mats to fight for the championship again.

"We are very excited to just get back out on the National floor this week," head coach Ashley Mundy said. "It's been a long two years, even more so with the second place finish in 2020, so we are just excited to have the chance to compete for a National Championship once again."

The cheerleaders will put it all on the line starting with the Open Small Coed Semifinals on Saturday morning. They will perform their routine starting at 10:06 a.m. The advancing teams will then compete in the Championship Round beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Wildcats already earned 15 percent of their overall score with a 15/15 mark on their Crowd Tape Scores that were submitted earlier.

The entire weekend will be live streamed with more information regarding ways to watch and follow the event can be found here: https://tv.varsity.com/events/7150714-2022-uca-uda-college-cheerleading-and-dance-team-national-championship?utm_campaign=223061ucaudacollege&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=varsity.com&utm_content=website&rtid=223061&coverage_id=7150714
