Alex Healy Captures Medalist Honors; Golf Places Second At Griffin Invitational

Playing regional for the first time this fall season, the Wilmington University golf team tied for second at the Griffin Invitational on Tuesday afternoon while Alex Healy took home his first career medalist honors played at the Indian Valley Country Club.

Playing as an individual, Healy posted a tournament best 74 finishing with a two-over par to defeat the gusty conditions and the field of 61 players.

Healy was accompanied in the top-five by a trio of Wildcats, as Justin Serowik (individual), Alexander Lautenschlaeger, and Andreas Lunding all posted five-over 77's on Tuesday. All three tied for the fifth spot in the tournament

Sophomore Freddy Braun was the third Wilmington team scorer, finishing in a tie for 14th overall with an eight-over 80.  Sam Clark and Jordan Lamb each finished in a tie for 19th overall, filling in a nine-over 81 on the scorecard.

Matt DiEleuterio was the final Wildcat on the course, as he placed 29th overall with a 13-over 85 on Tuesday, playing as an individual.

The Wildcats finished with a 315 (+27) as a team, tying with Moravian for second place. Host Chestnut Hill took the team victory, finishing with a 314 (+26) to beat the field by one stroke.

The Griffins' Sam Riemer placed second overall with a 75, three-over par round while Penn State-Abington's Mike Lam and Moravian's Jim Maru finished in a tie for third with a 76, four-over par score.

The Wildcats head to the West Coast to take part in the CSU Monterey Bay's Otter Invitational. The two-day, three-round tournament starts on Monday, October 20.
