Wilmington Golf Captures Second Tournament of the Week with 297 at Griffin Invitational

For the second time in as many days, the Wilmington University golf team captured the team title at an invitational, Tuesday being at the Spring Griffin Invitational at the Inniscrone Golf Club hosted by Chestnut Hill College.

The Wildcats posted a team score of 297, finishing 17-over par and 18 strokes ahead of the field. The Wildcats even shot 12 strokes better than their team score form Monday. Wilmington bested Division III Moravian by 18 strokes and topped Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foes Goldey-Beacom (316), Chestnut Hill (318), and Concordia (319) who rounded out the Top-5.

Junior Andreas Lunding was a stroke away from earning medalist honors on back-to-back days, leading the Wildcats with a 72 (+2). Lunding only trailed Moravian's Jim Maru's 71 for the afternoon.

Sophomore Sam Clark finished third overall with a 74 (+4) while freshman Joey Russo finished in a tie for fourth overall by shooting a 75 (+5). Sophomore Freddy Braun rounded out the Wildcat scoring with a 76 (+6), finishing in a tie for seventh overall.

Alex Healy and Jordan Lamb tied Braun for seventh overall in the standings, playing as individuals and finishing with a 76 (+6). Senior Alexander Lautenschlaeger did not factor in the team scoring but rounded out the Wildcats with an 80 (+10) to finish in a tie for 21st overall. He was tied with classmate Matt DiEleuterio in 21st overall as DiEleuterio also shot an 80 (+10) on the afternoon, rounding out all the Wildcats in action on Tuesday.

After two rounds of play against East and Atlantic Regional opponents, the Wildcats hit the road for their next tournament next week. The Wildcats head back to the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Barry University in Miami Beach, Fla., start on Monday, March 30.
