Wilmington Golfers Open Season with Two Rounds at Jay Jennison Memorial

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - - In its first appearance of the 2014-15 season, the Wilmington University golf team sits in 12th at the Jay Jennison Memorial at The Palencia Club hosted by Flagler College.

After the first round of play, the Wildcats were in sixth place, shooting a 296 to finish with an eight over par. The second round wasn't as kind to the Wildcats, as they shot a 312 to finish the first day of the tournament in 12th place with a 608, 32-over par score.

Freshman Joe Russo led the Wildcats with a 145, one-over par, saving his best for the second round as he shot a 71. His 74-71, 145, is good enough for a tie in 10th place after the first two rounds. He sits four shots off the leader.

Junior Andreas Lunding finished with a 74-78, 152, for a tie in 29th overall. Lunding is at eight-over par through the first two rounds.

Senior Alexander Lautenschlager is in a tie for 50th overall with a 75-81, 156, while junior newcomer Jordan Lamb is in a tie for 58th overall with a team best 73 in the first round and an 85 in the late round on Monday afternoon.

Senior Matt DuEleuterio sits in 69th overall with back-to-back 82's while sophomore Samuel Clark rounds out the Wildcats in 72nd after shooting an 85-82 in the first two rounds.

Host Flagler is the only team under par for the tournament, finishing with a 287-288 for a two round score of 575, one-under par. Limestone is in second place with a 292-299 for a 591, 15-over par.

Wingate's Benedict Gebhardt and Flagler's Zach Horne lead the Jay Jennison Memorial after each shooting a 141. Gebhardt went 70-71 while Horne went 71-70 to lead the pack.

Wilmington will tee off with Lander and UNC-Greensboro for the third round at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. In the shotgun start, the Wildcats will tee off from holes 12, 13, 14, and 15.
