Individuals Shine While Wilmington Golf Sits in Third After Two Rounds at Dennis Rose Invitational

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - - A strong second round propelled the Wildcats into a tie for third place after the first day of the Dennis Rose Invitational hosted by Hawaii at Hilo on the Waikoloa Kings' Course on Friday.

The Wildcats posted scores of 301 and 292 on Friday, moving up four sports into a tie for third after the first day with a 593 two-round score.

Even with the excellent team score, it was a pair of individuals that stole the show for the Wildcats in Paradise, as Sam Clark and Troy Miller sit in second and sixth overall, respectively, while playing as individuals.

Clark shot a 69-72 for a two-round score of 141 (-3) to only trail the leader from UC San Diego by two strokes. Miller shot a 71-72 to finish with a two-round score of 143 (-1) to sit in sixth overall after the first day.

The team was led by senior Jordan Lamb and sophomore Joey Russo, as they are both in a tie for 12th overall after the first two rounds. Lamb improved his day by eight shots in the second round, shooting a 78-70 for a 148 (+4). Russo improved in the second round by four strokes, shooting a 76-72 for his 148 (+4).

Freshman Ryan Rucinski is in a tie for 16th overall while also improving in the second round by three strokes. He shot a 76-73 for a 149 (+5) following the first two rounds.

Senior Andreas Lunding opened the tournament with a 71 to sit in sixth overall after the first round, but hit a 79 in the second round, finishing with a 150 (+6) to sit in a tie for 21st overall after two rounds.

Senior Alex Healy was the final Wildcat on the course on Friday, shooting an 82-77 for a 159 (+15). He is in 48th overall following the first two rounds of play.

Cal State Monterey Bay leads the tournament with a two-round team score of 571, leading UC San Diego by 20 strokes. The Wildcats are tied for third with Saint Martin's University with their 593 team score.

UC San Diego's Clayton Yamaguchi leads the field after shooting a 70-69 for a 139 (-5) for the tournament.

The Wildcats will wrap up the Dennis Rose Invitational, and their 2015 fall season, on Saturday with the third round in Hawaii.
