Freddy Braun Shoots 73 to Lead Wilmington Golf To Second Place Finish at Bear Trap Dunes Invitational in 2016 Opener

OCEANVIEW, Del. - - The Wilmington University golf team improved its first round scored by shooting a 298 on Saturday, finishing second overall at the Bear Trap Dunes Invitational with a 598 total score at Bear Trap Dunes.

The Wildcats shot a 300 on Friday but fired a 298 on Saturday afternoon to secure their second place finish, shooting a 598 (+22) for the first tournament of the 2016 spring. The Wildcats fell 17 shots behind Bear Trap Dunes Invitational winner St. Thomas Aquinas.

Junior Freddy Braun led the Wildcats on Saturday, shooting a 73 to finish in a tie for third place overall. Fellow classmate Sam Clark, playing as an individual, was steady by posting back-to-back 74's, finishing tied with Braun in third place with a 148 (+4) overall.

Junior Miguel Siercke also posted a team low on Saturday with a 73, finishing in a tie for sixth place overall, shooting a 76-73 to finish with a 149 (+5) for the tournament.

Junior Troy Miller finished the Wildcat scoring on Saturday with a 75, finishing in a tie for 11th overall. He shot a 76-75 for a 151 total (+7).

Sophomore Joey Russo led the team after the first round with a 74, but finished tied for 13th overall after finishing with a 152 overall, coming in at +8 overall. Freshman Ryan Rucinski completed the Wildcats on the course with a 77 in Saturday, finishing with a 152 (+8).

The Wildcats head back to the course on Monday, March 28 as they compete against California (Pa.) at the Coach Carpenter Classic in Crofton, Md. The first round is schedule for next Monday at the Crofton Country Club.
