Le Moyne’s Late Surge Powers Past Wilmington Golf on Final Round of Super Regionals, Wildcats Finish Fifth Overall

DANIELS, W.Va. - - Le Moyne College jumped the Wilmington University golf team on the 54th and final hole of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament on Wednesday at The Resort at Glade Springs, knocking the Wildcats to fifth as they shot a 301 in the final round.

The Wildcats finished at 41 over par for the tournament, shooting a 304-300-301 for a 905. Le Moyne's five birdies on the 18th hole on Wednesday dropped their round to a 302 and allowed them to finish with a 904, one stroke ahead of the Wildcats for the fourth and final at-large spot into the NCAA National Tournament.

Senior Miguel Siercke had one of the best rounds of the tournament, moving all the way up to a tie for seventh with a 69 (-3) on Wednesday. He birdied the par-five second and par-four sixth, making the turn with a 34 (-2). After a bogey on 11, Siercke answered with a birdie on the par-five 12th and then birdied the par-five 18th to finish the back nine at one-under par as well. Siercke finished the tournament with a 78-76-69 for a 223 (+7).

Junior Zac Moore finished in a tie for 22nd with teammate Ryan Rucinski, as Moore shot a 77 (+5) on Wednesday to close out his tournament. Moore fought off a double bogey on the par-three third with a birdie on the par-five fifth, finishing the front nine with four straight pars. The back nine did not play as nice for Moore, as he posted a 40 (+4), birdieing the par-four 15th. He finished the Super Regionals with a 75-74-77 for a three-round score of 226 (+10).

Senior Sam Clark started off his third round with a 37 (+1) as well, hitting birdies on the par-five fifth and the par-three seventh, but hit three bogeys before the turn. Clark finished with four bogeys on the back nine for his 77 (+5). Clark finished in a tie for 35th overall by shooting a 75-75-77 for a 230 (+14) for the three-round tournament.

Rucinski finished in a tie for 22nd for the tournament, closing out the Wildcats scoring on Wednesday with a 78 (+6). Rucinski birdied the opening hole and got to two-under with another birdie on the par-four fourth. But a double bogey, and back-to-back bogeys to close out the front nine brought him to a 38 (+2) at the turn. The sophomore closed the round with a 40 (+4) on the back nine for his 78 (+6). Rucinski shot a 74-75-78 for a 226 (+10) for the Super Regional.

Freshman Braden McKay rounded out the Wildcats on the course, hitting the lone eagle of the tournament for Wilmington. His eagle on the par-five 12th brought him to two-over par on the day, but he double bogeyed 13 and bogeyed 14 to get back to five-over par. McKay then birdied the par-four 15th, but finished the round with a bogey-double bogey-bogey for an 80 (+8). He finished in a tie for 73rd overall in his first Super Regional Tournament with an 81-76-80 for a 237 (+21).

Dominican took over the top spot on the final day to win the Super Regional with a three-day score of 899. They defeated St. Thomas Aquinas by one stroke for the championship. Charleston shot a tournament best 290 on Wednesday to move up six spots and finish third while Le Moyne rounded out the berths to the NCAA Division II National Tournament with their 904 fourth place finish.

Le Moyne's John Clare shot a 69 (-3) on Wednesday to capture medalist honors for the tournament, shooting a 76-70-69 for a 215 (-1). Mercyhurst's Chris Kupniewski was even par for the tournament shooting a 69-73-74 for a 216 (E). Kupniewski and Millersville's Connor Sheehan (217, +1) earned individual invites to the National Tournament.
