Wilmington Golfers in Second Place at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate After Two Rounds

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - - Playing on a perfect day in Paradise, the Wilmington University golf team performed up to the task in the first two rounds of the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Invitational, boasting a 573 (+13) to sit in second place on Friday afternoon at the Waikoloa Beach Course.

The Wildcats shot a first round best 284 (+4) in the morning before shooting a 289 (+9) in the afternoon to sit only behind Saint Martin's University on the leaderboard.

Freshman Enrique Valverde leads the Wildcats with a 141 (+1), siting in third place overall. After a first round 72 (+2) in the first round, the freshman came back with a 69 (-1) in the second round.

Junior Ryan Rucinski finished right behind Valverde, shooting a team best 68 (-2) in the first round. Rucinski came back and fired a 74 (+4) in the second round for a 142 (+2), sitting in fourth place overall.

The rest of the Wildcat scorers finished in a flurry, as Sergio Ronchel and Zac Moore scored 146 (+6) to sit in a tie for 15th overall. Both Ronchel and Moore shot identical 72-74 rounds to post their six-over par rounds.

Joey Russo finished right behind Ronchel and Moore, sitting in 18th overall with a 147 (+7). Russo shot a 75 in the first round but rebounded with a 72 in the afternoon.

Playing as individuals, Braden McKay and Matthew Kettleson shot identical 78-73 rounds for a 151 (+11). They are tied for 27th on the leaderboard. Jack Dixon rounded out the Wildcats on the course on Friday, posting a 72-81 for a 153 (+13). He is in a tie for 29th overall after Friday.

Saint Martin's shot a 293-278 for a 571 (+11) to claim the top spot on the leaderboard. Saint Martin's Trevor Frisby leads the tournament with a 136 (-4) through the first two rounds. He shot a 71-65 on Monday to lead by four strokes.

The third and final round will take place on Saturday morning at the Waikoloa Beach Course.
