Wilmington Golf Begins Final Fall Tournament at Miami Intercollegiate

DORAL, Fla. - - A tough travel schedule came back to harm the Wilmington University golf team in the first two rounds of the Miami Intercollegiate on Monday, posting scores of 315 and 291 for a 606 (+46) at the famed Trump National Doral Red Tiger Course.

The team flew in from Hawaii following their final round at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Saturday, but missed the tournament's practice round on Sunday. The Wildcats' first time seeing the course was on Monday morning during the first round.

Junior Ryan Rucinski (at right) paced the Wildcats on the first day with a 146. He posted a team low in each round, shooting a 76 before bouncing back with a 70 (E) to sit at six-over par. He is in a tie for 34th overall.

Freshman Sergio Ronchel also improved his second round by five strokes, shooting a 78-73 for a two-round score of 151 (+11). He is in a tie for 52nd overall.

Senior Joey Russo showed the biggest improvement from round to round, shooting an 82 in the morning but firing a 73 in the second round. His 155 (+15) is good enough for a tie in 68th overall.

Freshman Enrique Valverde continued the trend of second round improvements, taking six shots off his first round score. He shot a first round 81 before coming back for a second round 75. His 156 (+16) puts him in a tie for 70th overall.

Senior Zac Moore rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats on Monday, posting scores of 80-77 for a 157 (+17). He is in a tie for 73rd overall after the first two rounds.

Playing as individuals, Braden McKay shot an 88-73 for a 161 (+21) and is in a tie for 78th overall. Matthew Kettleson posted scores of 81-82 for a 163 (+23) and is in 80th after the first two rounds.

The third round of the Miami Intercollegiate is set for Tuesday morning at Doral. It is the final round of the Wildcats' 2017 fall season.
