NEWARK, Del. - - The eight-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament champion Wilmington University golf team enters the 2018 spring season atop not only the CACC rankings, but also the East Region, rankings according to GolfStat.com.
The Wildcats open their 2018 spring season already locked into advancing to the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament after winning their eighth consecutive CACC Tournament in the fall. They begin their trek to the Super Regional Tournament at the Saint Leo Invitational in Saint Leo, Florida, on February 26.
According to GolfStat.com, the Wildcats are ranked 84th in the NCAA Division II National rankings, which tops the CACC and the East Region (CACC, ECC, and NE10 conferences). They are second among Atlantic/East Super Regional participants, trailing only Charleston who is ranked No. 51.
During the spring season, the Wildcats will travel to Saint Leo, compete in the Jefferson Quad at the ACE Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa., on March 27, and head to the Battle at the Shores hosted by Barry University to begin the month of April. The team will come back north for the rest of April, competing in the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational in Berlin, Md., and the Mike Bello Invitational hosted by Le Moyne in Syracuse, N.Y., to wrap up the regular season.
The postseason starts with the Atlantic/East Super Regional hosted by Concord University at the Glade Springs Resort Golf Course in Daniels, West Virginia. The three-day, three-round tournament starts on Monday, May 7.
The Wildcats will need to be one of the top three teams at the Super Regional to advance to another NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Championships will be hosted at the Shoals Golf Club in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, starting on Monday, May 23.
