Enrique Valverde Is Tied for Seventh Overall as Wilmington Golf Begins 2019 Fall Season at the Jay Jennison Memorial - Wilmington University

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - - In its first action of the 2019-20 season, Enrique Valverde leads the Wilmington University golf team in the first two rounds of the 2019 Jay Jennison Cup, sitting in seventh overall while the team is in 13^th, playing at the Palencia Club.

The Wildcats are in 13^th out of 14 teams at the Jay Jennison Cup, shooting rounds of 313 and 317 to finish the first day with a 630 (+54).

The junior was second overall after the first round, shooting a 70 (-2) in the first 18 holes. Valverde leads the tournament on the par three holes, finishing the two rounds at one-under par. He is also third overall on the par-five holes, finishing the day at four-under par on the long links. Valverde is in a tie for seventh overall with scores of 70-76 for a 146 (+2) through the first two rounds.

Senior Arvy Shongwe shot even rounds of 78, sitting in a tie for 44^th overall after the first day, finishing with a 156 (+12). Senior Braden McKay shot rounds of 78-82 for a 161 (17) to be in a tie for 59^th overall. Senior Matthew Kettleson posted rounds of 87-81 for a 168 (+24) and is in a tie for 70^th overall. Newcomer Tyler Cleaves rounded out the Wildcats on the course on Monday, shooting rounds of 86-85 for a 171 (+27) in his first collegiate competition. Cleaves is in 75^th overall.

Flagler leads its own tournament after two rounds, shooting rounds of 289-297 for a 586 (+10). Belmont Abbey shot rounds of 296-294 for a 590 (+14) while West Florida rounds out the top three with a 291-300 for a 591 (+15).

West Florida's Carlos Marrero leads the tournament at three-under par through two rounds, shooting a 71-70 for a 141. Flagler's Chun Yan Leong had the lowest round of the day with a first round 69, and is in a tie for second overall after a second round 74 for a 143 (-1). He's tied with Rollins' Trystan Perkins at one-under par, rounding out the only three players under par through the two rounds.

Tuesday will feature the final round of the tournament, with a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Wildcats will begin on holes 15 through 18, and will be paried with Embry Riddle and the tournaments' individual players.
