Wilmington Golf Places Two on All-Tournament Team As Wildcats Finish Seventh at Hargett Memorial Invite

MONROE, N.J. - - A pair of Wilmington golfers earned a spot on the 20th Annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational All-Tournament Team in leading the Wildcats to a seventh place finish on Tuesday afternoon at the Stonebridge Golf Club. The Wildcats shot a 307 Tuesday to finish with a 911 (+47).

Junior Enrique Valverde finished second overall while senior Matthew Kettleson moved up to fourth overall to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. The other three member came from the host Wingate program.

On Tuesday, Kettleson led the Wildcats with a tournament day's best 70 (-2) on Tuesday, closing out his tournament with a 214 (-2) after back-to-back 72's on Monday. He finished second overall on the par three holes, finishing the three round at one-under par after 12 par-three holes this week. He was also fifth overall on the par four holes, coming in at one-over par (4.03 average). He was tied for fifth overall with 36 pars and tied for ninth overall with 10 birdies.

Valverde posted a 71 on Tuesday, remaining in second place overall after Monday. He finished the tournament with a 212 (-4) with rounds of 71-70-71 this week. Valverde did his damage on the par five holes, averaging 4.50 strokes throughout the three rounds to complete the hole. In the 12 par five holes this week, Valverde finished six-under par. He also finished even par on the par four holes this week, totaling 12 birdies (tied for fourth overall) and 34 pars.

Senior Braden McKay shot an 82 on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 43rd overall after a three-round total of 237 (+21). He posted rounds of 81-74-82. Arvy Shongwe was the final Wildcat on the course on Tuesday, shooting an 84. He finished his tournament with rounds of 84-80-84 for a 248 (+32) and in 51st place.

Wingate's Yannick Koehnen shot a 70 (-2) on Tuesday to remain in first place and win the tournament. He shot rounds of 71-69-70 for a 210 (-6) to defeat Valverde by two strokes.

Host Wingate won the tournament by 30 strokes, shooting subpar rounds in all three rounds. They shot 287-282-285 for an 854 (-10).

The Wildcats are off for a few weeks before they head to Florida for a tournament hosted by Barry University. The Battles at the Shores will start on Monday, April 6 at the Normandy Shores Golf Club.
