Wildcats in Sixth After Two Rounds at the Eagle Invitational

WATERTOWN, Conn. - - Rounds of 298 and 302 have the Wilmington University golf team in sixth place out of 14 teams at the Eagle Invitational with a 600 (+32), hosted by Post University at the Watertown Golf Club on Monday.

Southern New Hampshire currently leads the Tournament with rounds of 290=285 for a 575 (+7). Post is the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team ahead of the Wildcats as they posted scores of 292-283 for a 285 (+17) and is in second place.

Matthew Pulgini leads the Wildcats after two rounds, sitting in a tie for 17th place overall with scores of 72-77 for a 149 (+7). In his first round, Pulgini got back to even par with a birdie on the par five first hole and back to one-over par with a birdie on the par-five seventh. After seven straight pars, Pulgini ended his first round with a birdie on the par-five 16th, shooting 72 (+1). He had two more birdies in the second round, but back-to-back double bogeys set his round back. He is in a tie for second in the tournament on Par 3 Scoring, shooting even par on the eight par-three holes.

Freshman Pablo Quintero is one stroke off from Pulgini in a tie for 19th overall with rounds of 77-73 for a 150 (+8). He moved up 10 spots from tied for 29th after the first round. His second round started with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17. He had seven pars and two bogeys on the front nine, entering the 10th hole at even par. A birdie on the par-four 12th got him back to even, but back-to-back bogeys on 13 and 14 saw him move to two-over par and finish at 73 (+2). Quintero is tied for fifth overall on Par 4 Scoring, finishing two rounds at +2.

Tyler Cleaves is in a tie for 23rd overall with rounds of 75-76 for a 151 (+9). In his first round, Cleaves was one-under through his first nine holes played, but a bogey on seven and a double-bogey on eight put him at two-over par. He got back down to two-over par with a birdie on the par-four 12th, but his first round ended with back-to-back bogeys on 14 and 15. He sank back-to-back birdies to start his second round and a birdie on the par-three ninth brought him back to one-over par. But a double on 11 and two more bogeys to close out his round saw him finish at 76 (+5).

Jan Lekes and Nathan Potts are one stroke off of Cleaves in a tie for 29th, both shooting 152 (+10). Jan Lekes shot a 75-77 for his 152 while Nathan Potts went 76-76 for his 152. Lekes had three birdies in his first round, including back-to-back holes on 11 and 12 to get back to four-over par and close out his first round. Lekes started his second round with back-to-back birdies but two doubles and five bogeys in his round set him back. Lekes is tied for ninth in the tournament with six birdies while also being tied for 10th on Par 5 Scoring at two-under par.

Potts was one-under after a birdie on the par-three 15 as his round saw six bogeys and 11 pars. A birdie on the par-three ninth hole brought his second round back to four-over par followed by three pars, but a bogey on his final hole closed out his round at 76 (+5). Potts is tied for second in the tournament on Par 3 Scoring, finishing at even par.

The third and final round is a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
