Wilmington Golfers Shoot 299 in Third Round to Finish Fifth at Eagle Invitational

WATERTOWN, Conn. - - A 299 on the third and final round of the Eagle Invitational allowed the Wilmington University golf team to move up one spot and finish fifth out of 14 teams with scores of 298-302-299 for an 899 (+47) at the Watertown Golf Club.

Southern New Hampshire won the tournament with an 865 (+13) followed by host Post's 878 (+26). Southern New Hampshire's Jack Pepin earned medalist honors with rounds of 73-72-67 for a 212 (-1). He was the only player at even par or better for the tournament.

On Tuesday, Tyler Cleaves had the Wildcats best round, shooting a 73 (+2). He got to two-under par after birdies on 17 and 1, but found himself three-over par after three bogeys and a double with five holes to play. He picked up a stroke on the par-four 12th, and finishing with three straight pars for his 73. He moved up four spots to a tie for 19th overall in the tournament, shooting rounds of 75-76-73 for a 224 (+11).

Matthew Pulgini was also at two-under par after birdies on 17 and 1, but a double on the par-three fourth brought him back to even. A birdie on the par-five seventh got him to one-over, but a bogey on 9 and a bogey on his final hole of the day, the par five 16th, finished his round at 74 (+3). He moved up two spots to a tie for 15th overall with scores of 72-77-74 for a 223 (+10).

Nathan Potts finished second in the tournament on Par 3 Scoring, starting his third round on Tuesday with a birdie on the par-three 14th. He finished the three rounds one-under par on all the par three holes. Potts was even through his first nine holes on Tuesday, but then went bogey, double, birdie, bogey to be three-over with five holes to play. A birdie on the par-four 13th brought him back to three-over par to close out his third round with a 74 (+3). He moved up six spots to a tie for 23rd overall, shooting rounds of 76-76-74 for a 226 (+13).

Pablo Quintero's round started with a birdie on the par-five 16th, and he was again one-under par after a birdie on the par-five first, but a string of bogey, bogey, par, triple-bogey raised his round up to a 78 (+7). He finished in a tie for 27th overall with rounds of 77-73-78 for a 228 (+15).

Jan Lekes also started his third round with a birdie on the par-three 15th, and got to two-under par after a birdie on the par-five first. But a quadruple bogey and a bogey on back-to-back hole saw his score go to three-over. He finished with an 80 (+9) on Tuesday. He shot rounds of 75-77-80 for a 232 (+19) to finish in a tie for 35th overall.

The Wildcats will head for warmer weather for their final tournament of the fall season, as they will compete in the Miami Intercollegiate in Doral, Florida starting Monday, October 25.
