Golf Finishes Seventh at Crofton Invitational

CROFTON, Md. - - The Wilmington University golf team improved its team score by 16 strokes from round one to round two, finishing in seventh at the Crofton Invitational hosted by California (Pa.) on Monday and Tuesday at the Crofton Country Club.

The Wildcats posted the fifth best team score on Tuesday with a 308, improving from a 324 on Monday afternoon. They finished in seventh place with a 632 (+56).

Tyler Cleaves had one of the best rounds on Tuesday, shooting a 74 to move up 17 spots to finish in a tie for 13th overall. He finished with rounds of 81-74 for a 155 (+11). He was tied for fifth in the tournament with five birdies in the two rounds and tied for fourth overall on all the par fives, finished one-under in the two rounds.

Matthew Pulgini tied Cleaves for 13th with a 155 (+11), shooting rounds of 78-77. Pulgini tied for 12th in the tournament on all the par four holes, finishing at five-over par. He also finished sixth by collecting 23 pars in the two rounds.

Nathan Potts shot rounds of 80 and 79 for a 159 for a +15, finishing tied for 29th overall. Potts was even for the tournament on all the par five holes and 12th overall by posting 21 pars in the two rounds.

Carlos Coeto improved his rounds by seven strokes on Tuesday, finishing the tournament with rounds of 85-78 for a 163 (+19) and in a tie for 41st overall. Coeto tied Cleaves in fourth overall on all the par five holes, finishing at one-under par. He was also 12th in the tournament with 21 pars.

Pablo Quintero improved by 10 strokes on Tuesday, shooting rounds of 89-79 for a 168 (+24) and in a tie for 49th overall.

Mercyhurst won the tournament with a 602, shooting rounds of 308-294 to finish at +26. Le Moyne finished second overall with rounds of 311-302 for a 613 (+37). Mercyhurst's Ryan Ferry moved from a tie for third after the first round and into the lead with a 74-70 for a 144 (E). Le Moyne's Spencer Baum shot identical rounds of 73-73 for a 146 (+2) to finish second.

The Wildcats will begin preparation for the postseason, first by playing on the course that is hosting the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Region in May. They will play at the Ravenwood Golf Club in the Super Regional Preview hosted by Le Moyne on April 10-11.
