Tyler Cleaves and Matthew Pulgini Tie for Fifth as Golf Finishes Fourth at Penmen Fall Invite

CONCORD, N.H. - - Led by its elder statesmen who finished in a tie for fifth overall, the Wilmington University golf team finished fourth overall at the Penmen Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, playing two rounds at the Beaver Meadow Golf Course.

The Wildcats shot rounds of 298 and 301 for a two-round score of 599 (+23).

Matthew Pulgini and Tyler Cleaves each finished with scores of 146 (+2), finishing in a tie for fifth place overall. Pulgini reached his 146 by identical scores of 73-73 while Cleaves had a team low 71 in the first round and finished with a 75 for his 146 (+2).

Pablo Quintero shot rounds of 75-77 for a 152 (+8), finishing in a tie for 25th. Quintero led the Wildcats on all the Par 3 Scoring, finishing the tournament at one-under par, tied for second overall. Quintero also finished tied for 12th in the tournament with six birdies in the two rounds. Matthew Pulgini led all Wildcats with seven birdies in the two rounds.

Jan Lekes finished in a tie for 45th overall, shooting rounds of 79-78 for a 157 (+13). Lekes tied with Cleaves for the most pars on the team, totaling 23 which was 12th most in the Tournament.

Blake Ramirez showed the most improvement between rounds, shooting an 82 on Monday but then came back and shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish with a 158 (+14). He finished in a tie for 49th overall.

The host Penmen won the tournament with rounds of 297 and 286 for a 583 (+7). Assumption (+11), and Le Moyne (+20) were the only teams that finished better than the Wildcats. NCAA Division I's Merrimack had the medalist winner, as Patrick McCarthy shot rounds of 71-69 for a 140 (-4) to win the tournament by one stroke.

This was the final tune-up prior to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, as the Wildcats looks to defend their crown beginning on Monday, October 3. The Championship will be held at Watertown Golf Club in Watertown, Connecticut.
