Tyler Cleaves Finishes Eighth at Eagles Invitational to Lead Golf Team to 10th Place Finish

WATERTOWN, Conn. - - Tyler Cleaves shot even par on Tuesday, moving up to a tie for eighth overall to lead the Wilmington University golf team to a 10th place finish at the Eagles Invitational hosted by Post University at the Watertown Golf Club.

Tyler Cleaves moved up seven spots into a tie for eighth overall with his 71 (E), just a stroke out of seventh, two strokes from sixth and four strokes from fifth. The Wildcats dropped two spots in the leaderboard on Tuesday though, shooting rounds of 302-300-307 for a 909 (+57) for the tournament.

Cleaves started his round on the 12th hole and started with a birdie. He got to three-under par with birdies on the par five 16th and the par five 1st and was still at three-under par through 11 holes on Tuesday. A double bogey on the par four 5th set him back before a birdie on the next hole brought him back to two under. But he rounded out his day with bogeys on the par three 9th and the par four 11th to finish at 71, even par. Tyler Cleaves had 35 pars and eight birdies in his three rounds.

Pablo Quintero moved up nine spots to a tie for 24th overall, shooting rounds of 74-77-75 for a 226 (+13). He sank a birdie on the par four sixth to get back to three-over par before finishing with a 75 (+4) on Tuesday. Quintero collected 32 pars in his three rounds and was tied for 18th overall with finishing at +7 on all the par four holes.

Blake Ramirez finished tied for 53rd overall with a 237 (+24). He posted rounds of 79-78-80 to get to his final. Ramirez was tied for 12th in the tournament with 33 pars in the three rounds.

Nathan Potts moved up three spots to a tie for 72nd overall, shooting rounds of 83-81-81 for a 245 (+32). On Tuesday, Potts had a birdie on the par five 1st, bringing his round to five-over par at the time. Potts was tied with Cleaves in 19th place in averaging 3.33 strokes on all the par three holes, finishing at four-over for the tournament.

Playing as an individual, Jan Lekes moved up five spots on the leaderboard on Tuesday with a 78 (+7). For the tournament, he posted rounds of 79-82-78 for a 239 (+26). He collected a birdie on the par five 16th bringing his score to five-over at that point.

Le Moyne took the Tournament Championship on the first playoff hole over the host Eagles. Both teams shot an 876 (+24) to sit atop the leaderboard. Le Moyne's Nicholas Bove earned medalist honors for the tournament with a 69 on Tuesday, jumping the day one leader from Post, Bill Koch. Bove shot rounds of 68-72-69 for a 209 (-4) to beat Kock by two strokes.

The Wildcats have one final tournament in their fall season, as they head to the Sunshine State on Monday, October 31, to begin The 2022 Citrus Intercollegiate in Davenport, Florida. The tournament will be played at the Champions Golf Club.
