Men’s Golf Competes at Battle at the Shores in Florida

MIAMI, Fla. - - Facing a field with six nationally ranked opponents, the Wilmington University golf team finished 15th overall at The Battle at the Shores hosted by Barry, shooting rounds of 306-310-302 for a 918 on Monday and Tuesday at the Miami Shores Country Club.

Host and nationally fourth-ranked Barry won the tournament with round of 281-263-275 for an 819 (-21). Nationally ranked No. 44 Lynn finished second with an 833 (-7) while No. 6 Nova Southeastern finished third overall with an 842 (+2).

Matthew Pulgini had the best round of the tournament for the Wildcats on Tuesday, shooting a 73 (+3). He birdied the par four fifth and remained at one-under par until the 12th hole on round three. He finished in a tie for 58th overall, posting rounds of 76-75-73 for a 224 (+14) on the par-70 course.

Tyler Cleaves also improved every round of the tournament, finishing in a tie for 64th overall with rounds of 77-76-74 for a 227 (+17). Back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth hole got him back to even par, while he also birdies the par four 15th on Tuesday.

Pablo Quintero finished in 73rd overall with a 233 (+233), shooting rounds of 76-78-78 on Monday and Tuesday. He birdied the par four fifth to get to one-under par and also birdied the par four 12th to get back to one-over par on Tuesday.

Blake Ramirez finished in a tie for 76th overall with rounds of 77-80-81 for a 238 (+11). Jan Lekes lowered his score each round with scores of 84-80-77 for a 241 (+31). He birdied the par four 16th on Tuesday.

Barry's AJ Ewart, ranked 11th in NCAA DII, won the tournament with a 197 (-13), shooting round of 69-62-66. Lynns Joseph Hudak posted rounds of 66-65-69 for a 200 (-10) to finish second overall.

The Wildcats have a quick turnaround, as they return north and will play two rounds on Friday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational. The Tournament will be hosted at the Phillip J. Rotella Memorial Golf Course in Pomona, New York.
