Matthew Pulgini in Sixth; Golf in 10th After Two Rounds at Super Regionals

LEBANON, Pa. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot a 308 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament on Friday, dropping four spots to 10th with one final round to play at the Iron Valley Golf Club hosted by Millersville University.

After two rounds, the Wildcats are in 20th with rounds of 303-308 for a 611 (+35). They dropped to 10th after two round and are now nine strokes out of third place for the final spot in the NCAA DII National Tournament.

The Wildcats are led by Matthew Pulgini who moved up 11 spots into a tie for sixth overall with a 73 (+1). He shot rounds of 74-73 for 147 (+3). Pulgini continues to lead the tournament with 10 birdies in the two rounds. He is also tied for fifth overall in Par 4 Scoring, shooting just two-over par on all the par four holes so far this tournament. He started with back-to-back birdies on holes two and three on Friday, making the turn at even par. He was two-over par after 15 holes, but then birdied the par five 16th. A bogey on 17 had him back up to two-over, but then he birdied the par four 18th to finish his round of 73 (+1).

Tyler Cleaves was the second lowest score for the Wildcats on Friday with a 76 (+4), equaling his score from Thursday. He is now in a tie for 28th overall with a 152 (+8) through two rounds. He birdied the par five third to get back to one-over and then birdied the par four ninth to make the turn at one-over. He also birdied the two par fives on the back nine, but was hampered by five bogeys.

Pablo Quintero was the third scorer for the Wildcats, shooting an identical score of 78 from his first round. He is now in a tie for 55th overall with a 156 (+12). He had three birdies in Round 2, connecting on the two par five on the front and the par four 11th. But three doubles on the front set Quintero back, despite having one of the better back nines on the team at one-over par.

Nathan Potts shot an 81 on Friday and is now in a tie for 55th overall with Quintero. Potts has rounds of 75-81 for a 156 (+12). He is now second overall in the tournament on Par 3 Scoring, shooting even par on all par three holes so far this tournament. His lone birdie came on the par five 16th, but he was hurt by a triple, a double, and three bogeys on the back nine.

Jan Lekes rounded out the Wildcats on the course, shooting an 82 (+10) to sit in a tie for 101st overall with a 166 (+22). HE also birdied the par five 16th in his second round on Friday.

Davis & Elkins leads the tournament after firing a 292 on Friday. They are now four strokes ahead of Le Moyne after two rounds. St. Thomas Aquinas, and Fayetteville State are tied for third with a 602 (+26) after two rounds. The Top 3 teams advance to the NCAA National Tournament.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Donte Groppuso leads the tournament with his second straight 69 (-3). He leads Davis & Elkins' Jordan Hyland by five strokes, after Hyland has shot rounds of 73-70 for a 143 (-1). Le Moyne's Tyler Bird is third and the final player at even par or better with a 144 (E).

The Wildcats will begin teeing off in the third and final round at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
