Men’s Basketball’s Tyaire Ponzo-Meek Named CACC Co-Player of the Week; Grant Earns Honor Roll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - In leading the Wilmington University men's basketball team to a 2-1 week, including a victory to kick off league play, Tyaire Ponzo-Meek has been named a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.

The senior helped the team to a nonconference victory over Millersville on Wednesday before taking down Philadelphia on Saturday in the Wildcats (5-3, 1-0 CACC) conference opener. He shares the weekly award with Felician's Terrell Spaulding who averaged a double-double in two games last week.

Ponzo-Meek (Wilmington, Del./Howard) started the week with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting at Shippensburg before coming home to tie a season high with 25 points on 7-of-16 shooting against Millersville. He finished the week with 17 points, while hitting three three-pointers, against Philadelphia on Saturday.

He averaged 20.0 points per game for the week, shooting at a 42.9 percent clip from the field. Ponzo-Meek also pulled in 4.7 rebounds and dished out 1.7 assists per game. He now ranks fourth in the CACC in putting up 20.4 points per game on the season.

The women's basketball team went 1-1 last week, but earned a 63-60 victory over Philadelphia to start their CACC slate as well. Sophomore forward Nyree Grant led the Wildcats with a pair of double-doubles, scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds against Bowie State before finishing with 10 points and 17 boards against Philadelphia. She earned a spot on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts.
