Jermaine Head and Jadyn Whitsitt Earn First CACC Basketball Rookie of the Week Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - In leading their respective teams to a 1-1 record last week, Wilmington University men's basketball Jermaine Head and women's basketball's Jadyn Whitsitt have been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookies of the Week, as announced by the conference.

It is the first weekly award for both Head (Edgewood, Md.) and Whitsitt (Fort Washington, Md.), as they each had season high games for the Wildcats.

Head led a furious late game comeback against Millersville on Wednesday, as the team trailed by 17 points with 8:55 left in regulation. Head scored 21 of his game high 32 points in the second half, shooting 9-of-14 from the floor down the stretch. He finished with 32 points on 13-of-24 shooting, grabbing nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He assisted on the final bucket of the night; a game-winning three-pointer by Shawn Church on a kick out after Head drove the lane.

Head averaged 20.5 points in two games last week, shooting at a 44.4 percent clip. He went a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line for the week, adding 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as well.

Whitsitt had a season's best 16 points in the women's team's home opener, shooting 7-of-13 from the floor. She then came back and poured in 13 more points at the District of Columbia, shooting 5-of-10 from the floor. She also grabbed seven rebounds in each game, adding three steals against Clarion and three assists at UDC.

For the week, Whitsitt averaged 52.2 percent shooting, going 12-of-23 from the floor. She scored 14.5 points per game, adding 7.0 rebounds a contest, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 assists in the 1-1 week.

Concordia's Stephen Milhaven was named the Men's Player of the Week while Head shared the Rookie of the Week award with Jefferson's Alexander Gorton. Felician's Rahsaan Williams was named the CACC's Defensive Player of the Week.

On the women's side, Post's Jasmyne Fogel was named the Player of the Week while Jefferson's Jessica Kaminski was named the Defensive Player of the Week. The Wildcats' LaShyra Williams was named on the Weekly Honor Roll as well.
