Head and Haynes Named CACC Players of the Week for Men’s Basketball

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After defeating West Chester University for the first time in program history, the Wilmington University men's basketball team had two student-athletes named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Jermaine Head earned this week's CACC Player of the Week, while teammate Denzil Haynes was named a CACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the Wildcats.

Jermaine Head averaged 17.5 points per game through two games for Wilmington this past week. He dished out a season-high eight assists against Shippensburg while grabbing seven boards. The red-shirt junior recorded a game-high 27 points to help the Wildcats to their first win over West Chester in program history. Head shot 53 percent from the floor, going 10-19 and 3-5 from behind the arc. He also grabbed six rebounds, while dishing out four assists and six steals against the Rams. Throughout both games, Head shot 47 percent from the floor, and 33 percent from deep. He totaled 12 assists and 13 rebounds, while playing 38 minutes each game. He leads the CACC, averaging 22.2 points a contest, is second in the league averaging 3.0 steals a game, and is fifth in the conference dishing out 4.4 assists per game.

Denzil Haynes has earned CACC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time as a Wildcat. He grabbed a total 13 rebounds in two games, averaging 6.5 a contest. The Northern Oklahoma College transfer was big on the boards for the Wildcats against West Chester, pulling down nine defensive boards, while also making three blocks. He also dished out three assists in the 68-64 win over the Rams. Haynes recorded 12 points throughout both games, while averaging 1.5 blocks. He currently ranks sixth in the CACC while averaging 8.4 rebounds a game.

Haynes was named CACC Defensive Player of the Week with Dominican's Jason Copman, while Jefferson's Deondre Bourne earned CACC Rookie of Week.
