Jermaine Head Adds NABC All-East Region Second Team Honors to Junior Season

NEWARK, Del. - - Adding to his resume at the end of his junior season, Wilmington University men's basketball standout Jermaine Head was named Second Team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Jermaine Head (Edgewood, Md./Joppatowne) joins former Wildcat Tyaire Ponzo-Meek as the only WilmU player to earn All-Region by both the NABC (coaches) and D2CCA (media) in the program's NCAA era. Ponzo-Meek was named First Team All-Region by the D2CCA and NABC during his senior season in 2016-17.

The redshirt junior led the CACC in scoring 23 points per game, ranking him tie for second overall in the East Region prior to the start of the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. But scoring wasn't the only thing the guard did this season, as he also led the CACC with 74 steals, third in the league with 151 assists, and ranked eighth overall in averaging 7.4 rebounds per game. He upped that rebounding average to 8.3 against CACC competition, ranking his fourth overall in CACC play.

Head scored in double figures in all but three games this year, and had 20 or more points in 23 contests throughout the year. He scored a season high 34 points in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinals, marking it the fourth time with 30 or more points on the year. His 151 assists this year broke his own single season record of 136 assists he set last year. His 74 steals this year also set a new program mark for a single season.

He scored his 1,000th career point on February 7 and finished the season ranked fifth in program history with 1,180 career points. He is also third all-time with 287 career assists, third all-time with 135 career steals, and sixth all-time with 361 career rebounds.

Daemen's head coach Mike MacDonald was voted as the District Coach of the Year.
