Lightning Convert From the Line for 91-83 CACC Victory over Men’s Basketball

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University men's basketball team held a 10-point lead halfway through the first half, but Goldey-Beacom charged back and took the 91-83 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph West Jones Center.

Taalib Holloman hit a three-pointer to take a 28-18 lead with 8:24 left in the first half, but the Lightning ended the half on a 21-8 run, taking a 39-36 lead into the break.

Jordan Harding hit a three-pointer early in the second half to tie the game, 40-40, but the Lightning went on a 12-0 run to take control of the contest. The Wildcats were able to bring the game to within 10 points with a tip-in from Isaiah Daniels-Porter and two free throws from Jermaine Head, but the Lightning extended the lead back out to their largest of the night, 64-49, with 11:05 left in regulation.

Jermaine Head hit a jumper with 8:11 to play to pull the Wildcats to within 70-61, but the home team used another 6-2 spurt to reopen a 76-63 lead with 7:00 left on the clock. Jordan Harding and Taalib Holloman made three straight free throws to pull to within 79-70, and then Holloman hit another three-pointer to get to within seven, 80-73, with 4:13 to play.

Danny Walsh followed with another three-pointer to get as close as 82-76, but free throws allowed the Lightning to retake an 86-77 lead with 1:08 left in regulation. Harding put in another layup to close to within 87-81, but a turnover on the Wildcats' next possession allowed the Lightning to go back to the foul line. A missed three-pointer by the Wildcats all but ended the comeback bid, as the Lightning settled on the 91-83 CACC victory.

Holloman led the Wildcats with 17 points while Jordan Harding finished with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Jermaine Head added 15 points and five rebounds while Danny Walsh scored 14 points while added a team high four rebounds and three assists. Qadir Burgess chipped in with 13 points off the bench.

Goldey-Beacom went 34-for-49 from the foul line while shooting 50 percent from the floor for the game. The Wildcats made 12 three-pointers while going 19-of-24 from the foul line.

The Wildcats are off for the rest of 2019, returning to action on Saturday, January 4 when they welcome Bloomfield to the Complex for another CACC contest. The men cap the CACC doubleheader with a tip-off at 3:00 p.m.
