Longtime Delaware basketball figure Micah Edwards is in his sixth season with the Wilmington University men’s basketball program as an assistant coach after first taking up the position for the 2014-15 season. Through his tenured playing and coaching career, Edwards brings valuable experience to the men’s program.

Most recently, Edwards was the head girl’s coach at Appoquinimink High School for two seasons (2012-13 and 2013-14) and successfully turned the program into a state contender. He was the first coach to lead the girls program to consecutive State Tournaments, getting ranked as high as fifth in the state after capturing the Blue Hen Conference and Flight A Championships in his first season.

Prior to Appoquinimink, Edwards was the head coach for the Diamond State Titans (AAU) and the Tall Oaks Classical School. He led the Titans to their first victory at the New Jersey May Jam Fest Phase II Tournament in 2012 and the Tall Oaks program to its first winning season during his first year as a coach. Edwards also has coaching experience as an assistant at Hodgson Vo-Tech and in the Middletown Athletic League.

Although his coaching career has been impressive, his playing career was just as extensive dating back his high school playing career at Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C. from 1988-1991.

He was voted All-Inner-High in DC Public Schools during his time at Woodrow Wilson and was the lone senior in 1991 to receive a full basketball scholarship. He received a full scholarship to play at the University of Delaware.

Edwards led the Blue Hens to back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths after capturing a pair of North Atlantic Conference Championships. He was voted a team captain for the 1994-95 season after being named the team’s most improved player as a junior.

After Delaware, Edwards played for the Washington Generals in 1996, squaring off against the world famous Harlem Globetrotters in the United States and in Europe.

Edwards moved on to play for the Lancaster Storm in the Eastern Basketball Alliance (EBA) in 1996-97 and the York City Cyclones of the EBA in 1997-98 before heading overseas. He scored a record 39 points in one game for the Solna Vikings in Stockholm, Sweden in 2000-01 while also playing for the B.C. Nybit in Tallinn, Estonia of the Estonian Basketball League for three seasons.

Edwards helped orchestrate the Nybit to their first postseason win as well as Championship game appearance by being the team’s leading scorer and rebounder in each year with the team. He then moved back to the United State and rounded out his playing career with the Philadelphia Destroyers in the American Professional Basketball League for the 2002-03 season.

Edwards received a B.S. in Education from the University of Delaware and holds a M.S. in Organizational Leadership from Neumann University.

A native of Washington, D.C., Edwards currently resides in Townsend, Delaware with his wife Francine and four children: Jordan, Madison, Tyler, and Joshua.
