Chestnut Hill Starts Fast in 14-5 CACC Victory over Men’s Lacrosse

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. - - Chestnut Hill jumped out to an early lead en route to a 14-5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team on Wednesday night on Victory Field.

The Griffins (8-4, 3-0 CACC) started the game by scoring the only three goals of the first quarter, starting the first half with a 5-0 lead with 10:05 left in the second quarter. The Wildcats scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter, but the Griffins responded with the final three goals of the quarter to reopen the margin.

Sean Sheehan scored the first goal of the night for the Wildcats with 1:12 left in the second quarter. The Griffins answered right back with a goal with 25 second to play before the half, taking a 6-1 lead into the break.

A man-advantage goal gave the Griffins a 7-1 lead early in the third quarter before Dylan McCleaft scored back-to-back goals to bring the Wildcats to within 7-3 with 9:33 left in the third quarter.

Chestnut Hill finished the third quarter with the final three quarter, going into the final frame with a 10-3 lead.

Austin Wood started the fourth with a man-advantage goal for the Wildcats, but the Griffins had the answer once again, scoring back-to-back goals. Dylan McCleaft scored the final goal of the game for the Wildcats, 12-5, with 6:02 to play, but the Griffins finished the game with the final two goals for the 14-5 victory.

Dylan McCleaft scored three goals for the Wildcats while Sean Sheehan and Austin Wood added the other marks. Jake Walsh and Ralph Ruggiero added assists for the Wildcats. Noah Given made 15 saves in goal on the night.

Chestnut Hill won more face-offs, 12-10, in the contest, while also outshooting the Wildcats, 50-29.

The Wildcats return home in a week for their final home game of the 2019 season next Wednesday. The Wildcats welcome Dominican to the WU Athletics Complex for a 4:00 p.m. face-off.
