NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the first time in program history, the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team featured major award winners as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced its 2021 All-Conference Teams on Tuesday morning.
Head Coach Christian Zwickert was voted the CACC Coach of the Year for the first time while redshirt freshman Logan Stinson was named the program's first ever CACC Rookie of the Year. The Wildcats also produced a pair of First Team and four Second Team award winners in a vote of the league's head coaches.
Joining Logan Stinson (Lafayette, La./St. Thomas More) on the First Team was redshirt freshman defender John Greene (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land). Defenders Jaeden Henson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Jake Mollohan (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney), as well as long stick midfielder Zach Pancake ((Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) and short stick defensive midfielder Chris Peacock (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) were all named Second Team All-CACC.
Stinson leads the Wildcats with 16 goals, 11 assists, and 27 points in six games this season, ranking 11th in the CACC in points despite playing far fewer games than other opponents. His 26 points and 15 goals in CACC games only rank third in the conference while his 11 assists rank fourth overall. He tallied a season high eight points in a 15-11 win at Felician, scoring eight goals while adding three assists. His seven points against Caldwell helped lead the team to the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament. He scored four goals and added three assists against the Cougars.
John Greene was named a First Team Defender after leading the conference and being ranked 10th in NCAA Division II in averaging 2.33 caused turnovers per game. His nine caused turnovers in CACC games also tops the CACC. He tied a program record with six caused turnovers in the season opener against Lake Erie. He also had four in the CACC opener against Post. He currently leads the Wildcats with 26 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers on the season. He scooped up a season high five ground balls twice.
Jaeden Henson ranks 10th in the CACC with seven caused turnovers on the year, six of them coming in CACC games, ranking sixth in the conference. He also has 16 ground balls on the year, and tallied an assist on a long outlet pass at Felician. He had a season high three caused turnovers at Post and a season high six ground ballas at Georgian Court.
Jake Mollohan has been a staple on the Wildcat defense since he got here, culminating with a Second Team All-CACC selection. His seven caused turnovers rank 10th in the CACC overall while he also has eight ground balls while starting all seven games this season. He has a season high three ground balls twice this year, and a season high two caused turnovers twice as well.
Zach Pancake is another constant on the defense for the Wildcats despite the limited recognition in the stat sheet. The hard-nosed defender has seven ground balls on the year and three caused turnovers, but his work as one-on-one defender clearly didn't go unnoticed with the Second Team All-CACC selection. He had a season high four ground balls against Post.
Another defender that has efforts that don't always show up in the stat sheet, Chris Peacock was rewarded with Second Team All-CACC honors after collecting five ground balls and adding two caused turnovers as a short stick defensive midfielder. He had two ground balls and one caused turnover against both Post and Felician, both season highs.
The defenders are all a part of the team defense that ranks 21st in all of NCAA DII and leads the CACC in only allowing 9.57 goals per game on the year.
In a vote of the league's Sports Information Directors, Christian Zwickert was named the CACC Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 4-3 overall record and a 4-1 conference record. They will be appearing in their third straight CACC Tournament Semifinal contest since beginning the program in 2018. There was no CACC Tournament in 2020.
The Wildcats, the No. 2 seed, will play the winner of No. 3 Georgian Court and No.6 Post on Thursday at the WU Athletics Complex in the CACC Tournament Semifinals. The opening draw is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
