PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Third Seeded Wildcats Begin 2016 CACC Tournament Run With Crosstown Rival No. 6 Goldey-Beacom

 NEWARK, Del. - - Tuesday starts the beginning of the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference Tournament for the Wilmington University men's soccer team as the host crosstown rival and sixth seeded Goldey-Beacom at the WU Athletics Complex at 2:00 p.m.

The Wildcats have been a part of the CACC Tournament in every season they have been a part of the NCAA Division II ranks (2004). Overall, the Wildcats are 7-9-3 in the CACC Tournament and are looking for their first CACC Tournament Championship since the 2007 season. The Wildcats have only won the CACC Tournament Championship once, reaching the CACC Tournament Championship match twice, with the last appearance in 2014. Last season's tournament run was ended by Chestnut Hill with the upset 2-1 overtime victory in the semifinals.

Scouting the No. 3 Wilmington University Wildcats:
The Wildcats earned the No. 3 seed for the CACC Tournament after going 7-4-1 in the CACC. The team's loss in the regular season finale to Dominican, 3-1, knocked them down to the number three seed on Tuesday. The Wildcats finished with 22 points in the CACC, only trailing Concordia's 27 points and Georgian Court's 25.

Freshman forward Lorne Bickley leads the team with 11 goals and 27 points and those stats place him in second in the CACC in each category. Senior midfielder Jamie Burridge, who was recently named to the CoSIDA Division II Academic All-District I Team, is tied for third in the CACC with six assists and sixth in the conference with 16 points. On the defensive side, sophomore goalkeeper Vinny Tasca comes into the game with an 11-4-1 record, while saving 58 shots with a .725 shot percentage.

As a team, the Wildcats lead the CACC overall with 36 goals, 34 assists, and a .171 shot percentage while 23 of those goals, 21 of the assists and a .153 shot percentage came in conference play which puts the Wildcats at third, third, and first respectively.

 

Scouting the No. 6 Goldey-Beacom College Lightning:
The Wildcats last faced the Lightning on October 25th and took the 1-0 victory at Kirkwood Soccer Club, which was the last game played for Goldey-Beacom. Both teams will be used to each other as they faced off last week. The Lightning come into the tournament with a record of 9-6-2 (6-4-2 CACC).

Sophomore defender Chahin Aghrim leads the lightning with four goals and five assists for the season, while juniors Declyn Brown and Mateus Silvestre also are tied with Aghrim for a team high of four goals for the season. Defensively, goalkeeper Suhail Bismilla has a record of 8-4-2. He also has a .760 save percentage, 57 saves, and 1.11 goals against average, which ranks second in the CACC.

As a team, the Lightning have scored 29 goals, 22 assists, and have a .104 shot percentage overall while 17 of the goals, 10 of the assists have came in conference play while posting a .092 shot percentage.
