NEWARK, Del. - - In an evenly matched contest, neither team could find the back of the net as the Wilmington University men's soccer team and West Chester played to a 0-0 tie at the WU Athletics Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Both squads had seven shots at the end of regulation and each team finished with 10 shots at the end of 110 minutes of action. West Chester (1-1-1) put four of those shots on frame while the Wildcats (0-1-2) missed the net with all 10 chances.

The Golden Rams had the best opportunity during regulation, as Doug Goitia took a shot from the left side. Wilmington netminder Vinny Tasca was up to the task, however, sprawling to his right to get a hand on it and knock it out of bounds. The ensuing corner produced another chance for the visitors, but a header on the back post was blocked.

The Wildcats had the best chances in the opening overtime session, as Dimitrios Topouzlis' long range shot was just over the crossbar in the 94th minute. Tom Garratt then found himself wide open from 12 yards out, but his right-footed bender snuck over the crossbar in the 100th minute as well.

West Chester put two shots on the board in the second overtime, but couldn't find the back of the net, resulting in the double-overtime tie.

Wilmington's Ben Jordan led the team with four shots while Garratt tallied two shots.

The Wildcats return to action on Sunday when they open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the WU Athletics Complex. The men are the nightcap to the CACC doubleheader with an approximate start time of 2:30 p.m.
