PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - Abdul Mansaray's quick retaliation proved to be the difference for the Wilmington University men's soccer team, as they pulled out a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road victory at Holy Family on Wednesday afternoon.
The win stretches the Wildcats' (2-1-2, 2-0 CACC) unbeaten streak to three straight while the Tigers fall to 1-3 overall, 0-2 in the CACC.
The Tigers knotted the score on a set piece 67:33 into the match, but it didn't take long for the Wildcats to get back on top. Mansaray didn't waste any time and once inside the penalty area, took a shot from the left side that found the back of the net for the 2-1 lead just 24 seconds later.
Goalkeeper Vinny Tasca saved the only shot he faced in the final 22 minutes to secure the victory.
The Wildcats got on the board first in the opening half, as sophomore Lorne Bickley tallied his sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute. Ben Jordan found Bickley in front with a cross from the right side to start the scoring.
The Wildcats outshot the Tigers, 16-5, for the match, but Tigers' goalie Mark Pohl recorded seven saves to keep the home team in the contest. Tasca finished the match with three saves for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats remain on the road for their next contest, as they head to Bloomfield for another CACC bout on Saturday afternoon. They will follow the women in the CACC doubleheader with a 3:30 p.m. scheduled start time.
