  • Daniel Loyo and Dimitrios Topouzlis Named to 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District I Men’s Soccer Team

    The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Teams have been announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes who preform both on the field and in the classroom.

    Four Wilmington University men’s soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2018 Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2 CCA) Men’s Soccer All-East Region Teams, as voted on by the regions Sports Information Directors.
  • Upset Bid Halted by #9 and Top Seed Adelphi, 2-1, in NCAA Second Round

    The Second Round upset bid came up just short for the Wilmington University men’s soccer team, 2-1, as top seed and nationally No. 9 ranked Adelphi snuck out with the victory on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field on the campus of Le Moyne College.

    The upset bid over top seed and nationally No. 9 Adelphi fell just short for the Wildcats in the Second Round of the NCAA East Regional Tournament on Sunday. After falling behinnd just 1:11 into the match, the Wildcats battled back to tie the match off a corner in the 40th minute. Sam Jester headed home the team's fourth corner of the half from Fredrik Bentdal to send the game into the half at 1-1. The second half was evenly played throughout, but an own goal set the Wildcats back, 2-1, in the 84th minute and they weren't able to recover. The Wildcats finished the season 15-3-4 on the season and advanced to the Second Round for the fourth time in program history. Copyright 2018; WIlmington University. All rights reserved.     Three unanswered goals broke a brief 1-1 tie for the Wilmington University men’s soccer team, as the fifth seeded Wildcats defeated fourth seeded and host Le Moyne, 4-1, in the First Round of the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament on Friday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

    Two second half goals send the Wilmington University men’s soccer team back to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship match with a 2-0 victory over fourth seeded Jefferson on Friday afternoon at LaMoy Field at Post University.

    The Wildcats squared off against the only team that has beaten them this year in the CACC Tournament Semifinals, and knocked off the Rams, 2-1, at Post's LaMoy FIeld. After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats struck twice with a PK from Tom Garratt and a header from Sam Jester. The Rams closed the gap to 2-1, but didn't threaten again as the Wildcats earned the win. They advance to the CACC Championship match for the first time since 2014, looking to win for the first time since 2007.     After clinching the regular season championship and the number one seed going into the postseason, two Wilmington University men’s soccer student-athletes were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Year, along with three being named First-Team All-CACC, while head coach Nick Papanicolas was named CACC Coach of the Year, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

    The top seeded and natioanlly 24th ranked Wilmington men's soccer team took on eighth seeded Chestnut Hill in the First Round of the CACC Tournament on Tuesday. Daniel Loyo scored within the final two minutes of the first half to start the scoring while Fredrik Bentdal and Tom Garratt finished off the Griffins in the second half. Tom Garratt had a goal and two assists on the day while Vinny Tasca recorded two saves for his 13th win and seventh shutout of the season. Interviews with head coach Nick Papanicolas and Tom Garratt.     The Wildcats battled Georgian Court, who sit atop the CACC standings and is ranked 4th in the East Region, a the Complex and used two second have goals just one minute and nine seconds a part to lead them to a 2-0 victory. Tom Garratt converted a PK for his 10th goal of the year and Will Stone finished a corner from Fredrik Bentdal and Joe Bell for the 2-0 lead in the 71st minute.
