NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University men's soccer team erupted for five second half goals to carry the Wildcats to a 6-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

With the win, the Wildcats remain undefeated in the season, 4-0-3, and move to 2-0-1 in CACC play. After heading into the halftime break leading 1-0, the Wildcats put five goals on the board in the second half, including three goals in a two minute and 45 second span of game-time to take the game over.

The Griffins (3-4, 2-2 CACC) had an opportunity to take the lead in the 16th minute, beating the offsides trap set by the Wilmington defense. Chestnut Hill was in alone on Vinny Tasca, slipping around him with nothing but an open net in front of him. But Elliot Johnson came from behind and executed a perfect tackle to keep the game knotted at 0-0.

The Wildcats outshot the Griffins, 11-1, in the first half, but only a Tom Garratt goal showed on the scoreboard as the teams headed into the break. Garratt was freed by a Will Stone pass into the right side of the box, blasting it home near side form 12 yards out for the 1-0 lead in the 31st minute.

The second half proved to be all Wilmington, as the scoring started in the 55th minute. Dimitrios Topouzlis scored his second of the season on a long pass over the top from Fredrik Bentdal before Sam Jester made it 3-0 in the 65th minute on a tap in goal following a blazing run down the left side from Will Stone.

Jester's goal started a string of back-to-back-to-back goals for the Wildcats, as Will Stone finally got his just 54 seconds later, heading home a set piece off the foot of Tom Garratt. Fredrik Bentdal put the Wildcats up 5-0 1:51 later, scoring his team leading fifth goal of the season from the left side off a feed from Will Stone.

Ben Jordan capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, be the recipient of a Tom Garratt run down the left side and left endline. Jordan's first goal of the year put the Wildcats up 6-0 81:44 into the match.

It was the second straight game the Wildcats used six different goal scorers in a match, as Stone led the way with a goal and three assists. Garratt finished with a goal and two assists, while Bentdal had a goal and an assist in the contest.

Vinny Tasca did not need to make a save for his second shutout of the season.

Today started a four-match home stand for the Wildcats, as they welcome Nyack to the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday for another CACC contest. The men cap a doubleheader at the Complex, with an expected start at 2:30 p.m.
