Men’s Soccer Concludes Saturday’s Homecoming Sweep with a 4-1 Win over Concordia

NEWARK, Del, - It was a slow start for the Wilmington University men's soccer team, but with three second-half goals they were able to defeat the Concordia Clippers, 4-1, for the final contest in Saturday afternoon's Homecoming festivities at the WU Athletics Complex.

Ellis McSharry scored the opening goal of the game in the 43rd minute to give the Wildcats some momentum to start the second half. Tom Garratt scored on his third penalty kick of the season in the 51st minute to increase WilmU's lead over Concordia, 2-0. Eight minutes later, Garratt scored his eighth goal of the season courtesy of Sam Jester.

Will Stone would get his fourth goal of the season off a pass from Tom Garratt in the 68th minute to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead. With three minutes left to play, Concordia's Alessandro Battaglia scored to lift the shutout from the Wildcats.

Wilmington out-shot the Clippers, 22-4, with 14 shots on goal. Concordia's goalkeeper Jaime Gonzalez made 10 saves for the Clippers.

The Wildcats will travel to Jefferson Wednesday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. CACC matchup.
